There was a major traffic jam between the spillway and the lake in the mid afternoon. People park on both sides of the road making it essentially a one way road. We probably waited 30 minutes to go 1/4 mile on the way out. The Rubicon Trail Foundations needs to do one of two things. They either need to limit parking to one side of the road allowing two way traffic flow or set up traffic control on both ends and alternate one way traffic in both directions. Two people and two radios could have saved a lot of people from having to be stuck in a major traffic jam. I would be happy to volunteer to conduct traffic control next year. Maybe that is something our club can offer to do to help them make the event better next year.
James Taylor: "Damn this traffic jam, how I hate to be late, it hurts my motor to go so slow. Damn this traffic jam, time I get home my supper'll be cold, damn this traffic jam".

It was great seeing our Posse friends today at the Cantina for the Con! I agree with all above... We almost got completely blocked in and could not get out. People just did not seem to use any common sense. We left early and I am glad that we did as it sounds like it got worse later in the afternoon.

Getting out of that parking area sucked ass and it was that rig pulling a trailer that blocked everyone, the forestry deptmentment also got stuck in that cluster fuck. I ended up pulling the trailer side ways to get them out. Then a toyo had no reverse gears so he couldn't back up and that jack off parked in the middle of the street. Needless to to say the only good thing that came out of all that was all the Posse people showing up to hang out with, that was really cool. I will not be going back to that cluster fuck and besides the tacos sucked.

Man. That sounds like it sucked and the tacos weren't even worth a damn. Glad I skipped this one. Too bad that a few idiots had to ruin it for everyone - isn't that always how it works?
Yahoos and crowds. . . wherever there's a crowd, there are guaranteed to be at least a few yahoo idiots present. I have never liked dealing with crowds, and the older I get, the more I hate them . . .

I think we all need to keep in mind that this is a fundraiser to help keep the trail maintained and open to the general public. If we don't work at supporting the cause, there will be no cause.
I agree it was a cluster but this event is put on by volunteers and I know they work hard to make it happen. Does it need work, yes, absolutely. So like Jeff said, how can we as a club help?
Um...what?

I'm sure the RTF would appreciate constructive feedback as to how they can make this important fundraising event better. Clearly this is not the kind of event that everyone enjoys. I personally didn't see any behavior that was too outrageous in both years that I have of attended this event but it certainly wouldn't surprise me given the number of people and rigs there. The off-roading community is made up of all kinds of people and some can be a little too rowdy or unruly. Like out club, the RTF advocates responsible wheeling and works hard to keep the trail open. That's why I go and show my support and try to represent responsible wheelers amongst us.
Last year ingress and egress between the lake and the spillway was a issue, but not nearly as bad as it was this year. The mess apparently got started when a forest service engine tried to come down to the spillway. Traffic backed at both ends of what became a one-way road due the parking on both sides of the road. It turned into a free for all between those trying to enter and those of us who were in the process of leaving. Representatives from the RTF finally got handitalkies at both ends and were able to alternate the flow of traffic. This needs to be met with a proactive plan next year so it doesn't happen again. As I mentioned I see at least two easy solutions (parking on one side only or traffic control at both ends).
Next year I guess we should warn our members about the nature of the event so those who might not like it don't go expecting something different.

Good point from you & Greg. The pure fact about keeping the trail open is worth while as a stand-alone reason to do whatever is necessary to keep the County from closing it & lost forever. It's easy to complain, but to remain proactive is not as easy, especially when problems occur. As a club, one thing we can do is help...not necessarily at the Cantina, but otherwise for clean-up, trail maintenance, or some other way to contribute to the cause.

We went up on Saturday around 1:30 PM, I didn't recognize anyone from here. We ended up camping at Spider, the Gatekeeper and the slabs were the busiest we have ever seen, but after that, it wasn't too bad. I think most people were just going up for the day.
That explains why you didn't wave at us as we passed you heading out from the gate keeper. Does your wife normally drive?
Um...what?

I didn't mean to sound overly critical we have to remember what this event is and go in with that in mind. Never be in a hurry and always keep a smile on and laugh. I think Greg and Jeff are right, is there more we can do absolutely. I think our club had a descent showing of support and donated generously. Non of us were the cause of any problems and in some cases helped or suggest help. Just remember keep smiling and laughing and as long as we keep a positive attitude we'll have a good time as always. Smiles and laughter is infectious and soon everyone around our little group will have a good time as well. Maybe that's why our club is growing so well

Sorry Man. I didn't even notice that you were waving at us!
Yeah, I have been trying to get my wife to drive for a while, she is starting to take to it like a pig to mud.
I normally drive but figured it would be more fun for her if she got into it. Plus it is entertaining on a whole different level 🙂
Were you the one that spun a differential?
