I need a new tire carrier for my new bolt pattern (8x6.5)

My old tire carrier bit the dust and now I'm on a search for a new setup.

I want a body mounted and prefer a one step opening with the tailgate.

I'm also open to the possibility of running the AEV and modifying the bolt pattern.

But I hear the AEV is a pain to install and holds the tire off-center.

I used to wheel a lot. . .

I looked into them, but from what I hear they rattle like crazy and the lock breaks.

Edit:

Did more research and apparently they have solved the locking issue on newer models.

Kevin, do you plan on running the PSC carrier?

I have a custom design in mind. I'm going to have a flat carrier built that sits above my cargo area. My cargo top will allow it and it will stick out less than a spare on the rear bumper.

That's the plan, anyways. 🙂

Sorry, it was modified to work with the 8x6.5 bolt pattern. I ended up trashing it after it broke a couple of the bolts holding it on.

Hey John have looked into the OR fab carrier. I have the tj modle it lock really well with very little rattle. But it opens separately from the tale gate.

Yes, it is definitely on the short list. I like the tight fit, the spin on/off, and the fact that it doesn't rattle. I hear the install is really tough though. Did you install yours yourself?

Im a fan of the AEV purely because of the built in full size shovel mount.  If only they had it for the TJ.  Built in water tanks in the bumper are nice for camping too, though probably not great for crawling.

I'm a fan of the AEV simply because it is strong, fits up to a 40" tire, and is a solid, rattle free mount.

I really don't bother with shovels, water, or Hi Lift jacks. I mostly do day trips and don't get stuck 🙂

Plus, it works perfectly with my stock Hard Rock bumper. The AEV is my top contender right now.

I'll be alright. I've made plenty of offerings to the wheeling gods 🙂

I've set my mind to the AEV tire carrier.

WFO can do it for $1,200 dollars (cha-ching) dont-tell

That includes drilling, installing, and changing the bolt pattern to 8x6.5.
