Hi:
I have gotten sort of annoyed with POR-15 for several reasons. One of which is that I have had a hard time getting the stuff to keep well . . in other words, the pint can lid gets nicked up after it's been opened/closed a few times such that the rest of it skins up and basically dries up. Second can I bought, I carefully used a piece of saran wrap in between the can and the lid (per their instructions), but it still skinned up and went bad. Additionally, after I painted my cage with it, I realized that UV rays will destroy it, so i spent $$ to buy a pint of their "top kote" brand paint that is supposed to be UV proof. Long story short, it's not working as advertised.
There are a lot of other products out there. Eastwood Rust Encapsulator, etc. I was hoping some of you smart folks would have some good advice.
Use will be generally everywhere, interior and exterior. My Suburban has some body panel seam rust (prepping for Line-X on the interior of tub, possibly interior roof, possibly wheelwells etc). All advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Used rustoleum satin and hammered finish for years though the california legal stuff is getting worse. I have since switched to an acrylic based tractor paint I get over in nevada. Nothing on the jeep yet but other equipment I have painted is still looking good after 2 years in the sun. If only I could get the hammered rustoleum they sold 5 years ago...

You can get it at Kragens or any auto parts store.
There are a lot pf products like that - and a lot of "rust bullet"/POR15 products that seem like snake oil . . a lot of marketing and big promises. Interesting that most folks here use plain old rustoleum. I have a few pinholes in the body panels seams (after removing rust), might need to do a little fabric/fiberglass for that . . . then will just hit it with rustoleum.
I might check Tractor Supply, I have read they have some good tractor pain, but (as stated) if it is CA legal, I expect it won't work as well as out of state stuff . . .

I stopped using hammered finish paints about 5 yrs ago when it seemed to stop being an actual rust preventative.
I bet that was about the time California implemented some new rule on VOCs or other chemical and they had to change the recipe to comply. I still have a few cans of R-12, maybe I should find some good spray paint and stock up for future regulations.

CA stockpile list: Rifles/handguns, ammo (pre-background check), paint. What's next? Whiskey? Actually I have all of those already covered. Except paint.
