The trailmaster keeps a signin sheet for each of the major runs and prepares a written summary/report of the activities preformed. The report is generally 2-3 pages of written summary and a few pages of pictures. For smaller runs, for example where 2 rigs do a patrol of the trail, the recreation officer is notified and the people doing the run must stop by his office to sign a release. A simple email summary satisfies their records for smaller runs. The trip summaries/reports are used by the recreation officer to justify the volunteer hours reported and are generally read by a few different people in the local forest. The best/most interesting are passed up the chain of command as examples.

Interesting. So, i just got back from wheeling down near shaver lake and cleared a huge 6ft diameter tree that was blocking a couple of trails and people had started driving around it off trail.
It took two of us, 3 hours to clear it and build a burm where people had created the bypass. I have photos and can do a write up and turn it in to Sierra National Forest for them to get 6 volunteer hours...
Do i just email one of the ranger stations? Or is there a particular job title'd person that i need to report it to?
Thanks Kris!
