It was purdy though.
Nice to see you around here Howdy.
Thanks John....Its been a while. Looks like I lost about 800 posts somewhere along the way. I am thinking about getting another wheeler, but something cheap and I can smash up. Guess that means a Toyota is in my future:) My nerves cannot take having something nice and straight and taking it off road. Been having a blast with having quads. Cheap(compared to a 4x4) and goes about anywhere. Its been good for my son also. Instead of being a passenger he can ride his own quad and make decision on what line to take and how fast he wants to go. Its been a good confidence builder for him over the last few years and is more exciting than riding shotgun in a rig.

Could have added the supercharger they offered, or done a 3.4 swap. Or even a 4.0 swap if you had waited long enough. It's been gone a while though, unfortunately...
You are right Brad, that could have been an option. It would probably not have been a good money move though. This also had the auto which was not so desirable and harder to do a doubler on. The 22re and a 5 speed would have been the better ticket for this though, but they were harder to find.

You could have swapped in a 5-speed as well. They made manuals in to the next gen 4-runners as well since my 96 had a manual with the 3.4 motor.
I did a motor and tranny swap on my Raider. They are easy to do and not very expensive if you use wrecking yard parts (which is what I did).
Why would you go back to the 22RE? Didn't the next gen 4 runner offer a 2.4 e motor that was even better? It was the "DX" offering Toyota came out with in 96. Most had manuals as well.

They did have manuals back in 91 in the 2nd gen runners along with the 4 cyl. Not as common as the autos and v6, but much more reliable without having to get into engine swaps, smog referee, etc.. My personal preference would be not to waste the time, energy, and money doing any kind of engine swap on a Toyota 4runner or truck. I would choose something 1975 and earlier to have fun with if I was going to get into engine mods. Now if someone wants to put their resources into a Toyota engine swap and make it legal, I have no problem buying it for pennies on the dollar from them

What is this 4cyl 6cyl talk??? You should have thrown a V8 in it and called it good.
There you go. I like that kind of thinking. A Ford 5.0 EFI would have fit great. You sure made the most out of the engine swap you did with all the miles you put on it. That was a worthwhile decision. I was only going to put a couple thousand a year on mine and at that point the only reason to do an engine swap on a mass produced, run of the mill vehicle, common vehicle would be to enter the hot dog measuring contest.
