You need one as much as you get stuck

I am hoping to get the boss' permission to buy a new winch rope.

Reviving this for the upcoming April meeting.
I'm getting a new arm rest to match my interior and a tailgate storage set. I just added a new winch cover to the list as well.
There are two projects I am deciding between which may determine my other purchase at the meeting.
Anyone else getting anything? I know several people have new(er) vehicles.

Fred, I did a little looking on you reasons for going from the Detroit to ARB.
Aside from the obvious differences, did you have difficulty with the Detroit? You didn't sound very happy with it. I do know from my own research that short wheelbase rigs can get squirrelly with auto-lockers which can lead to unpleasant effects.

Tom- I run a rear Detroit. Coil spring vehicles will act very different then a leaf sprung rear axle like yours. I had a Detroit in my Toyota and it pretty much just made my tires chirp on cornering. So rotate tires often for tire longevity. On coil spring, the detroit can cause your suspension to load and unload. Like its binding. And the Detroit will unload and sounds and feels like someone hit your rig. I never noticed this in my Toyota.
Just my thoughts, I wouldn't worry about running a tear Detroit in an XJ. But I don't mind rough rides.
Um...what?

I don't believe the Detroit locker cares whether the axle is high pinion or low pinion. You do have to use the appropriate ring & pinion gears.
If anyone is interested pm me and we can work out a good deal. I'd really like to get this into the hands of someone who will use it.

On the trail I liked the Detroit locker more than I do my ARB. It was just always there and always worked really well and I never had to think about turning it on or off. As I started driving my Jeep more on the road I became dissatisfied with the on-road behavior.

I have heard things like that from other owners during my research as well. Thanks.
