SUMMARY:Bear Valley Loop (Sierra Trek Pre-Run) & Overnight Camping - 2026
DESCRIPTION:NOTE: We don’t have a leader for this run but maybe we can talk Jeff into running it? \nBear Valley Loop Trail is our Sierra Trek pre-run: This is a club run open to anybody with a stock\, high clearance 4X4. This will be a pre-run for the Sierra Trek Outer Limits run that our club is leading two weeks later in August. The purpose of the run is to evaluate trail conditions and do planning and any necessary trail maintenance in preparation for the Outer Limits Run. Typically we have done some minor pruning and we mark the trail with flagging for the Outer Limits Run. Please bring the usual trail maintenance tools such as saws\, lopper\, shovels\, etc. Trimming brush typically the main need. \nThe Bear Valley Loop Trail is rated as an easy trail. It is a combination of dirt roads\, dirt trails and rock trails. All of the winch hills have easy bypasses for those who want to avoid the winch hills. The staging area for the trail is located about 20 minutes north of Truckee on Hwy 89. The trail tends to be dusty and does have some brushy areas that may need to be trimmed back. Mild cowboy pinstriping can occur. \nRun details: \nGroup 1: Arrive anytime on Friday\, July 24\, 2026 at Bear Valley Campground (Windmill Rd\, Loyalton\, CA 96118).  I believe reservations for camping can be made online. \nGroup 2: Meet at Bear valley Campground at 9:00am. We will have a drivers meeting and leave camp by 9:30am. We should be off the trail mid to late afternoon depending on how much maintenance is needed. Ideally there will be some time to play on the winch hills. This is an opportunity for anyone who needs to do their member BBQ in order to become a full member.

This is a family-oriented event geared towards everything from stock 4x4s on guided historic and slightly challenging tours to fully built rock crawlers on Fordyce Creek Trail and everything in between. Stock vehicles should consider signing up for the Wednesday/Thursday Overnight\, the Saturday Historic Run\, the Outer Limits Run or the Signal Peak run. Moderately modified vehicles will love the beauty and the challenge of the intermediate run or the Signal Peak Run. \nFordyce Trail is an extremely technical and challenging trail\, therefore is offered to the more modified vehicles requiring at least 35” tires and a minimum of one locker. Larger tires\, two lockers and crawler gearing are all recommended to improve the overall participant experience on the Fordyce Trail runs. The surrounding area trails allow Sierra Trek to offer runs for less modified 4×4 vehicles. \nAs always\, we love to embrace a family atmosphere and welcome the next generation of four-wheelers into the sport. We welcome everyone to main camp for a Cornhole Tournament\, and a world class vendor show. Please feel free to explore the area and locate any one of the numerous geocaches. Come to camp at night for the campfire with a live band. Enjoy your favorite adult beverage from the bar while you make new friends and catch up with old ones. As always enjoy great food\, a scenic environment and make lifelong memories. We look forward to seeing you at Sierra Trek.

SUMMARY:Barrett Lake Overnight - 2026
DESCRIPTION:THIS RUN IS LIMITED TO 10 RIGS ONLY! \nWHEN: September 26 & 27 (Saturday and Sunday Overnight) \nMEET: Meet at the Subway/Shell station in Pollock Pines off of Hwy 50 and Sly Park exit. \nTIME: 7:30am. Will head up to the trailhead about 8:00am.  Expect to hit the trailhead around 9:00am to air-down and go through Gate Keeper. \nWHERE: Barrett Lake Jeep Trail Head \nDIRECTIONS TO TRAILHEAD: \n\nFrom Highway 50: Take the Wrights Lake Road exit.\nFollow Wrights Lake Rd: Drive about 8 miles to Wrights Lake.\nTo the Start: Follow signs to Dark Lake (left at Wrights Lake)\, where the trail begins near the Rockbound Trailhead parking. \n\nKey Locations:\n\nTrailhead Gate: Near Dark Lake.\nCoordinates: N 38° 51.144′\, W 120° 14.449′ (Trailhead); N 38° 54.302′\, W 120° 13.887′ (Barrett Lake). \n\nBarrett Lake Trail is a High Sierra Four Wheel Drive/Off Highway Vehicle rock crawling trail located in the Eldorado National Forest. The trail typically opens the last weekend of July and is only open for about two months\, usually closing around mid October (these dates are typical from past experience). The determining factor on opening and closing the trail is how much mud and snow is on the trail. The Forest Service has ultimate control on opening and closing the trail. \nThe trail is suggested only for the experienced four-wheeler with non-stock\, lifted and modified rigs. The trail is limited to narrow short wheel based vehicles. Rating the trail on a 1 to 10 system this trail is a 9 to 10. The Barrett Lake Trail is a single path trail there is no bypassing the hard spots. The Gateposts at the Trailhead are 85 ¾ inches apart at the top flange and 86 ¼ below the flange and are used as a gauge; if your vehicle cannot fit between the gateposts it will not make it through the squeeze points on the trail\, and again there are no bypasses. \nThe Barrett Lake Trailhead is located at Dark Lake just north of Wrights Lake. The trail is a dead-end trail that is about 5 1/2 miles long from gate to Barrett Lake Campground. The average speed on this trail is 1½ to 2 miles per hour so you should plan on about four hours on the trail each way. The trail snakes through wooded areas\, side hills\, rock slabs and has a few creek crossings. The trail is an environmentally sensitive trail running on the border of Desolation Wilderness deviating from the established trail\, driving onto Desolation Wilderness land or walking onto Desolation Wilderness without a permit has and will result in heavy forest service fines. \nThe trail ends at the Barrett Lake Campground. The campground is a primitive campground with no conveniences.  You will need plenty of fresh water unless you plan to purify the lake water.  While at the campground please do not park or camp on the lake shore and please observe all posted boundary signs\, please pack out all your trash when you leave.
