I keep talking about it so I guess I should finally post it! With time changing this weekend I was thinking the following weekend might be a good time to do a Signal Peak night run. Timing is up for discussion, the earliest I was thinking is meet at Cisco Grove chevron at 5:00 PM, head over to trail head on Eagle Lake side, air down and be on the trail around 6 PM. It should be dark at 5. I can't find any source that says there is snow on the trail and the forest service web site says it's open, weather seems pretty good throughout the week, but if you have other information I am not seeing please chime in!
I have only run the trail once during the day so having some additional experience on it would be good. I figured go up to the one difficult section, look at it, decide if we want to bypass of try it and then head up the rest of the way.
I am really trying to gauge interest and thoughts on timing to get the most people involved, let me know your thoughts!

Jamie,
According to the National Weather Service at Cisco Grove, its scheduled to snow this coming Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday. Though it doesn’t comment how much accumulation, the concern is at the top where a cornice forms to get over. I guess the best gauge it to keep tracking the weather reports. Lynda passed by yesterday & noticed only patches of snow on the mountain.
I’ll reserve our participation until next week.

The difficult section is fairly tough and a stock Jeep or small lift might be difficult. I wouldn’t do it in my JKU with 33s and a friend with a YJ on 35s had a hard time during the day. Last year I did it and used the bypass for the tough spot, but the rest was fine. Don’t know how the trail has changed since then.

Steve is right, last time on a day run, we spent a great deal of time getting everyone up through that section, & it was dry. If the bypass is passable, that is a good alternate. We have managed to make it when there was some snow, but conditions change every year, so careful judgement should be used.

Greg and I and his two ex deputy friends went up in August just before they closed the forest due to the fires. Greg in his LJ with 33's and open diffs went up the bypass which he said was a little tough and Greg is a really good driver. My TJ on 35's and the two Unlimiteds with 35/37s went up the harder side without much problem. We pretty much did a straight shot and when we got near the top we veered left. I don't think I even used my locker. The JLU liked it so much when we had to come back the same way because the Cisco Grove side was closed, he chose to go down the hard side while the rest of us took the bypass.
Given our run was in daylight and dry/dusty conditions I would use caution. I don't know how slippery the off camber spot after going up hard side and connecting back to the trail will be be as there is that tree which seems so inviting to the jeep.

What I am reading at trail elevation is 2-8 inches today/tonight, with small percentage chance of snow each night until Thursday where it turns to small percentage chance of rain overnight through Sunday. My snow depth overlay on Gaia is showing a couple inches of potential snow already on the top third of the trail. Will continue to watch it.

Looks like most of the trail has 2-5 inches of snow on it right now which does not feel bad, but my concern would be if it ices over. John & Brian, where is your head at on it since it looks like it would just be 2-3 of us? I am starting to shy away from it since it could only be 2 of us, but I would defer to experience

Well I've been up Signal Peak twice both during the day in dry conditions. But I have never done a night run so I don't know what to expect. During the day I don't think it would be a problem. If it were just 3 going and the two of us can't decide I'd have to defer to Moe
