The clutch hose on the 4runner went out on me this week. Luckily i was pulling into my driveway coming home from the mall when it happened. went to "the zone", autozone to pick up the replacement line but they told me i'd have to special order it from the dealer. BS. So i went to pep boys and the guy there said the same thing. BS. So i went to napa and the guy said they only have one in the country and that it was going to be 15 bucks which seemed expensive for a 12" long hose. BS. So I decided to fab up my own line (upgrade the rubber line to steel braided) so i went to walmart and found a good deal on some hose in the toilet/bath section of the store. now i have to find some clear tubing to attach to the slave cylinder so that i can properly bleed the system to get all the air out of the line. off to walmart again. i think i can find some in the fish tank section. good thing brake fluid is cheap otherwise i'd probably just use the canola oil we have in the kitchen as a substitute. 8) I'm so excited. i finally get to work on the 4runner this weekend to get it "Trail" rated.

Clutches are optional. Just shift at the right rpm!

So you had all weekend - Is the thing shifting like an automatic now? Did you find the hose in the fish tank section. If not, check out the bendy straws. If you wrap them in duct tape they should be plenty strong. 😀

I'm lazy. $15 for a hose seems fine to me.

If you're having trouble finding the correct fish tank hose a good trail repair would be to bite off the ends of a piece of licorice and use whats left as a temporary hose.

Everything is operational. Took way to long to fix but at least it's done. I think the hardest part was trying to put the bolts back on the bracket that holds the hose in place. The body lift does not help the situation out. I think in the future I just might ask a brakeline shop to fab me up a line that is 3" longer than stock and use that.

Or buy the tool to flare the lines and make your own. Then your friends could borrow the tool as needed. 😀
