As a side note...Not to anyone in particular...just some thoughts I had about build-ups...
Building big rigs is cool, but I still believe that your rig should grow with your skill level. Find out exactly what you need to do the trails you drive on. Just building a big rig for the Rubicon just seems like such a waste. It just makes a fairly easy trail just that much easier. I see and know guys that build these huge buggy type Jeeps just to cruise the Rubicon. It's a much easier task to drive your buggy through the Little Sluice, but very different when you are driving a full body rig on 35s or 37s. Now if you are heading to the Hammers, that may be a different story. But still, see how your rig handles the trails and build it accordingly. Not to mention your skills as a driver will increase as you get used to the different levels of the build-up.
I am now zipping up my fire suit in preperation for flaming :weld:

I agree but whatever makes you happy. It's your rig and your money. fwiw each of my major builds followed a JV run. π
Starting point was 100% stock to:
Family snow run

My first Fordyce run: 35's and an unshaved 14b

to First JV run

The next JV trip

The next JV trip

The next JV trip

The last JV run from Jan 2010

As it sits now

All the crap I broke at JV had nothing to do with my build π I built mine so I wouldn't break anything on Deer Valley π π π π

I have had little breakage over the years. My builds were motivated by trail denial. π And for the record my first trip to JV I made it 100' up lower Big Johnson. That was my entire weekend right there. I cut a tire, fried a clutch and vapor locked the motor. Best trip ever. π
Pictures 4 and 5 show less rear sheetmetal than 6 and 7. Did you add sheetmetal to the rear panels at some point, or are the photos reversed?
John made it 25 feet into Upper Big Johnson and got denied. He is still a little Johnson Guy π

Photo #4 is a so called "comp cut" XJ springs on the rear with a 6" offset center pin.
Photo #5 is with Dodge Dakota springs. They have a 10" offset pin. In 5 the entire rear tub has been removed and replaced it with tube and sheet matal. I just didn't finish the skins on the sides. Pic number 6 shows it.

Ya ya ya...Talks a lot of smack for a guy that spends more time fixing his rig at JV than he does driving the trails π
Just an update:
Rear captured coil Corp 14 bolt shaved, going to hold off on the stretch for now.
Front Dana 60 (still looking for the axle housing) holding off on the coilovers for now until the funding is available.
Will take pictures of the build when is startsβ¦..hopefully soon. :weld:

Rob did you install the Vanco yourself? how difficult was it?
I did install it myself. It isn't hard if you know what you are doing when it comes to bench bleeding the master, brake line bending, caliper bleeding, and bleeding the steering. As long as you are comfortable doing that it isn't that bad.

Yep, havent done any of that before. looks like im in a little over my head. I spoke with the tech from AGR yesterday about adding the rock ram and hydro boost. doesnt exactly sound easy. is there anyone out there that would be interested in helping me install these two things in about a month. ill throw in free food/beverages? :hack: :weld:
PSC vs. AGR. Anyone?

vs. stock steering box anyone?

actually i would be quite interested on any opinions....i looked at both but the guy from Vanco likes the way the AGR worked with the Hydroboost.
Actually if anyone has any other ideas on a rock ram and brake setup for 1ton axles im all ears? π€·
P.S. we need to make an avatiar of a broke guy, cause that what im going to be for a while.... π’

What else...you own a Jeep πΊ
I would help you on most anything else, but when it comes to brakes, I only work on mine. If I screw something up, hopefully I am the only one that will pay the price and get hurt or killed π² Brakes are a major safety item and most people don't want to take on the liability of doing someone elses brakes. Fred might help you, he also knows the Vanco system.

John would help you, I hear he is a master mechanic and knows his way around a wrench like no one else π
your probably right. i should just take it to a pro.

You've worked on my brakes...Does that mean you could give a crap if I crash and die? π
Nice! Those front swaybar links may be a little short though. π
