Rock Sliders

I need some rock sliders! I have been doing some research but it looks like there is not a lot available for good rocker protection. I could use some help planning and building something that could hold up to a full size on the rocks. I know your suppose to "leave the tow rig in the parking lot" but this one won’t be left out of the fun. I am thinking something simple like 3/16 2x6 rectangle steel supported to the frame with some 2x2 square tube and some gussets? I may have to plate the frame a bit as well? What do you think?

Take a look at some threads for XJ, ZJ and WJ. They are all unibody and incorporate sliders and pinch seams. DetoursUSA has some great pics for ideas used on XJs.

Why unibody for this truck that is body on frame? Wouldn't a TJ, LJ or JK design be more appropriate? What were your thoughts?

I've seen tube protection you could throw on, but it's tough finding much else out there.

I was thinking of specialty brands and can do some more research, but anything you're looking at is probably going to cost some bucks...

There are plenty of tube designs out there, but good luck if you land on one of them hard with a 6500 pound truck..You are going to fold it up under your truck and smash your rocker panels!!! I guess it is better than smashing your rocker panels straight on the rock though...

I built mine from 2" square steel from Blue Collar Supply, it came in a 20ft length. I'll post a picture if your interested.

Sure post up pictures of any thing that might help. And your right on with the weight. I came off the scale at 6000 and any given trip I would have a passenger and camping gear. I see alot of people getting toyota sliders and fabing them to work, but I want more strength.

Here is a picture of my Toyota rock sliders. You can see the plate welded to the frame in the background. I only attached it in two places, but its still strong enough to hi-jack it in the middle and change two tires at once. Your rig might need at least 3 attachment points to the frame.

From the Clinic...get some darn protection!!

No need to reinvent the wheel as I'll follow Path 88's on his setup. I'd probably for sure go with 3 mount locations though due to my longer length (QC).

Btw, you didn't post pictures of your finished sliders. πŸ˜› So I'll pinch in for that.

Your welcome sir. I can't remember, but did you get from Blue Collar Supply? I'd welcome any help to get mine setup, however I don't have a welder or grinder.

I'm sure Jeff has both, but I do as well. My problem is more scheduling a free day for you to buy food!

    *reusing this cool thread*

Some of you may remember that I picked up some 3x3x.188 square tube for by bday last December.

Picked up some material to start getting these things on finally. Here's my current mockup pictures. Going for similar frame plating like Jeff. Adding a 3rd mount and angle for support. These will not be removable. lol

I welcome any input as today I'm mocking up and cutting. I'll be slow enough that I can check out any suggestions. Thanks! Come by if you like too! Home all day with this.

Pretty much have the plan done after several mockup variants.

Joe, since you have a Miller 211 (as we talked the other night), what could I entice you with to help dial the welder in quicker???? 🍺 😁 :weld: :bling:

Sounds like Carl could have the sliders on for the Hell Hole run!

A call with a time and date will do.

I've got my frame plating cut and mostly prepped.

Beveled the ends of the sliders.

Test fitting a plate to cap the ends.

Well, I guess I'd better get started on mine next. These look GREAT and I've seen first hand how Path88's held up over some tough going.
