Joe Rob or Fred will have good ideas. I don't run one on either of my jeeps.

Brad, you run large tires have you ever run into tranny heat issues on your Jk? Does the gearing and drivetrain mods that you have done address this issue? Or is this type of mod generally not required?

I have never run into overheating problems on either jeep since I have owned them (other than a self inflicted mud experience). I have also never run into tranny heating problems on either jeep.

Both jeeps run at least 37's tires and dual D60s, no issues.

I run a very large stand alone cooler made by Earl's. Restricts air flow it is so large. It was left over from when I had 700r4 and the stock motor. I would not recomend it unless you plan to do LOTS of cooling mods. My trans temp has only gotten over 160 once as best as i can remember.Usually runs between 100 on the freeway and up to 150 on the trail. I am planing to change it to a Long Tru-Flow cooler made by the Dana Corp next time I have it apart as the dodge tranny's don't run near as hot as the 700's. The green jeep runs to the cooler in the radiator then to a small "ish" Long stacked plate cooler. I plan to run a larger cooler when the motor swap takes place as it will be running the stock dodge trans. Both of our jeeps run a modified trans right now so I don't know if this will be of much help, also I believe the JK trans is much different than either of ours. I assume you have an auto trans. If it is a manual put a good quality syn fluid in it and forget about it.

No tranny cooler on my stock 2000 TJ 3 speed auto running 40 inch tires, and I have never once had a over heating issue. If it isn't broke, don't fix it!

I use a roughly 10"x10" stacked plate cooler I picked up a Pep Boys several years ago. I believe it's a B&M brand. I also added a transmission fluid temperature gauge. The fluid temp. typically runs about 160 and occassionally will get to 180.
