Bummed I had to miss it. Stupid battery completely dead, I will never buy another Optima yellow top POS again. Second one I owned and both were junk.

what’s a good battery?  Thinking an AGM battery.

So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

I just bought an Odessey 34R AGM2 for the JK and it seems to work fine.  The new buzz is on the smart lithium ion battery which is lighter and will only allow charge to drop to minimum vehicle start needed then won't discharge.  Pricey but if you have a persistent parasitic draw it may be a good option.

Odyssey is on my shortlist also, I wanted to try Northstar batteries but it looks like the parent company (EnerSys) owns Odyssey and Northstar and killed off the automotive side of Northstar.

I tried the X2 Power ones from Batteries Plus because of the 5 year warranty, one failed in less than 2 years in my wife's car which they replaced and the one in my Jeep is not holding a charge for more than 4 or 5 days. I am going to check for parasitic draw today, and if it is not there then X2 is off the list.

The other one I have heard a lot about is Full Throttle Batteries, I compared the specs between it and the Odyssey and I am leaning towards the Odyssey also.

I have been thinking about removing all the positive connections to my battery and installing on a bus bar instead, anyone done this already on their JK/other that they like?

Sounds like a great new thread to start.

One of my college buddies did the gold plated terminal blocks with the Allen head set screws on his 3.8 JKU.  Looked pretty clean but i like the bus bar idea better if you have a clean location to mount it.

Moving the discussion from the maintenance run thread.

For the JK, if you remove the spacer on the side of the battery tray you can fit a larger battery.

I currently have this one…

I previously ran this one if you don’t want to change…

Thanks, I’ll look into the Odyseey. I did get a lithium for my Seadoo, and boy was it pricey.

Interesting! They ended up replacing the battery under warranty so I am on the X2 until it dies. I will always run an AGM in the Jeep Scott, better able to handle lower voltage when it sits and still recover plus a bit safer if something bad happens on the trail grin
