I just discovered that I bent my Tie Rod pretty nicely on Slick Rock a while back, so I am looking for a replacement. I found a few different manufacturers (Currie, RockKrawler, Synergy) making upgraded aftermarket Tie Rods, with Chromoly tubing, and stronger ends, but they are quite pricey ($325 - $1000). Also, i have some concern that if I nail a rock with a super strong Chromoly Tie Rod, the impact could damage my steering box instead of the tie rod. I also found a Crown OE Tie Rod for about $120, but have not had any experience with the aftermarket company. Any one have any thoughts, or experience with replacing the Tie Rod?
I don't suppose anyone has an old OE one sitting around that they took off to install a full Hydraulic system...Brad?

I had looked at the Crown replacement for my XJ and was ready to order until seeing the Currie. No comparison.
More $$$, yes. Worth it, yes!! If it hasn't damaged the steering box on my XJ then you should have no worries.

I have a free stock tie rod - You can have it!
However, you'd need to show up to the Christmas Party to get it (and remind me to walk out and pull it for you)!
The tie rod is in my shed - Free to the first person who asks and shows up on Saturday to the club party!
Cool...We will be at the party, and hopefully the Toy Run this Saturday. I'll bug you for it then.

Ok. John gets shocks. Chris the tie-rod. If Chris can't make the party, John gets both. Either way, my shed has more space for new parts!
Chris, you need to go to the member section of the forum and reply with your attendance count to the holiday party, plus the age and gender of kids under the age of 10 who'll be there with you!
If you can't see the member section, PM Kevin ASAP! And then catch up on all the reading over there!
See you Saturday!

If he dosent want it and its in better shape than mine - I want it
Hey John, do you still want Brad's old Tie Rod? A buddy of mine hooked me up with a deal I couldn't refuse on a Synergy Chromoly Tie Rod so I didn't end up using the one Brad gave me. If you can still use it, let me know and I can bring it to the next meeting (unless Brad wants it back of course).
