Never mind I mounted middle and it's fine. Baby's first Jeep ride time! Dad is happy as its still a few years before we get to take the Z out and swing some donuts in the high school parking lot!
Are there no anchors in the middle to mount a base?
I see 2 behind driver 2 behind passenger and no middle. A middle mount would just stretch the 2 insides from passenger/driver and make it uncomfortable for anyone to sit in the rear? Am I missing something?

Two of these metal framed car seats fit side by side in the back seat of a CJ7, pretty sure they would fit 3 wide in the JK as the seats are only 16" wide. Dont read too much into this, we are not in a hurry to have kids, just have this info from trying to help a friend justify his Jeep to his wife.

3 baby seats fit in the backseat of a K5, I'm just sayin . . . heh
Baby seats vary more than you would think in width, brand to brand. Something to keep in mind while shopping for them.
Most all modern vehicles have the above-referenced hooks/loops attached to the floorboard that accept the babyseat strap things. If yours doesn't (my 89 K5 doesn't), you have to use the seatbelt itself to attach the baby seat. Or fabricate some hooks/loops.
All fire stations will inspect your mounted babyseat to confirm it's safe, as will your local AAA office (not sure if you need to be a member for that).
