POSTED ON BEHALF OF ANOTHER GROUP.

Hi @everyone

I have some news!

Over the past few months the Hi-Landers have met with the Forest Service to discuss the importance of doing something about the outhouse situation at Barrett Lake. As most of you know, the current outhouse is insufficient for the amount of people visiting and now, white flowers are starting to show up. We cannot wait any longer for a solution and most users do not want to use wagbags.

Upon discussing options, the Forest Service let us know that they don't have any funding at this time to build a replacement outhouse, and it could take them years to come up with Grant money for a composting toilet.

As an alternative solution in the interim, the Hi-Landers proposed building a pumper trailer and a double outhouse building at Barrett Lake to replace the existing outhouse with the 55 gallon barrel drum. The building would have back to back toilets and be able to hold 40 gallons each of waste. (They will be nearly identical to the ones along the Rubicon Trail). Club members would haul the pumper trailer into the trail as needed during the open season to remove the waste.

Just last week, the rangers gave us permission to go forward with the interim solution of building the out houses which is great news!

We need to raise approximately $15,000 to build both the pumper trailer and the double outhouse building. We would like to implement the plan this year and get started on building the pumper trailer right away.

That's where YOU, the public, comes in. The Hi-Landers need your help to fund this important project so we can ensure the trail doesn't get shut down due to sanitation problems around Barrett Lake.

Please see the flyer I created that shows how and where to send donations. At this time we can only accept cash and check donations.

Thank you.

There isn't a Go Fund Me account for this?

The information contained here is all that I have. If the club is interested, might need to reach out to the Hi-Landers.

Thanks everyone.  I believe we can discuss this at the march meeting and send something just after that.
