"A 49-year-old Auburn man suffered fatal injuries early Sunday after the 1986 Jeep in which he was a passenger rolled over in rugged terrain in the Rubicon wilderness area in the northeastern reaches of El Dorado County.

Dead at the scene of the 2 a.m. accident was John Gary Cawley, who was not wearing a seat belt when the Jeep driven by Kurt William Steever, 27, tumbled over as the pair traversed the treacherous landscape, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Placerville office.

Public Information Officer Andrew Brown said the driver, from Citrus Heights, suffered scratches and some cuts to his face but was not seriously injured. Steever was wearing his seat belt, according to CHP reports.

The driver, who reportedly was treated for his injuries at an area hospital, now faces charges of driving while under the influence of alcohol and manslaughter, said Brown".

No excuse not to wear a seat belt

No excuse to drink and drive

Get a clue people...

I used to wheel a lot. . .

What a shame it is said to think going out and having a good time can lead to this, but that is what happens when you drink and drive and don't ware your seatbelt.

This does put a downed look on all of us off roaders when people who have no idea what most of us are about.

I'll tell you when I started looking for a club to join I looked at a lot of different clubs and just didn't find a club that had the respect that I got from the guys and gals here at this club.

I sure do respect and love my club family

That's sad but, Betty was saying that's what we like about our club No drink and driving.  That's the thing about our hobby you have to be responsible, respectful and have a measure of self control.

Jeff and I were down at Moonlight Madness over the weekend and they had a drunk driver who the sheriff's were chasing to give a DUI and make an arrest.  People think they can escape the law in the back country.  It will still find you.

Um...what?
