Got the word today that I am getting my transfer request from Tahoe to Auburn in 2 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!! I will be stuck in our jail as the Sergeant for 2 years, but it is far better than the drive from Auburn to Tahoe I have doing for 2 1/2 years!!!!! Plus we work 12 hour shifts in the jail so every other week I get 4 days off 🙂

I know, that two years has taken its toll on me mentally. I have been living 4 days a week away from my wife and home. It has sucked. Looking forward to getting my normal life back.

Good for you. Is Placer County hiring at all? Even reserves?

Um...what?

Placer County like most other agencies is currently in a hiring freeze. I do see us hiring again before the end of the year though. As far as Reserves, we are always hiring qualified candidates. Our Reserve are volunteer only and do not get paid. What is your back ground? Do you have any prior experience or academy graduate? If you are interested in a Reserve Deputy position, I can get you in contact with the right people.

I am currently going through an Academy. I do have my level II certificate. And unfortunately I have no prior experience in law enforcement.

Does Placer County hire level II reserves or only level I? I understand the hiring freeze but I am just looking to get my foot in the door. Any information you could provide me would be highly appreciated. Thanks

Um...what?

We hire both level 1 and level 2. Getting in the door at our department as a Reserve is a good idea. We look at it as a testing ground for future full time Deputies. As long as you do a good job, build a solid reputation, we always hire our Reserves, but we get rid of people just as fast if they turn out to be idiots.

Go the link below and it gives you the info on being a Reserve with our Department. I would highly suggest that you also do a ride along with us if you are serious.

Right on. Thanks for the information. I will do my best at trying not to be an idiot. rasta Do you enjoy your department? What other departments would you recommend for someone trying to get in the door?

If you are trying to get your foot in the door, then I would apply to every agency in the state of California or where ever you are willing to live. There are way too many people out there who want to be cops to be selective on an agency unless you have prior experience.

You asked if I like Placer. I have worked for the Sacramento Police Department and now Placer County. Placer is a great agency and I would highly recommend it. Sacramento was a good agency for the most part, but I didn't need the adrenalin rush anymore and find Placer a much more relaxed environment.

Just out curiosity, how old are you and what academy are you attending?

That is the academy out at the old McClellan AFB isn't it? I worked out there for about a year while we were sending some of our Deputies through.

Not a chance, I went through the Police academy in 1990 and it was only 4 months long back then. It sucked then, and I am sure it sucks now 😀

It has been so hot and I have been working a lot of OT the last few weeks. I have almost all the brackets done. Next week I am hopeing to send it out for the gear and ARB install. It is not looking like I will be ready for the Rubicon run on the 28th though. My other issue right now is that no one has axles for my set up. Superior is 4 to 6 weeks out on orders 🙁

Going 35 spline in and out? If not, why not just run some stock shafts for the time being. Have you tried Alloy USA?

If you need stock shafts shortened, Cryo Dean in Lincoln did mine quickly and for a good price. I think he can make shaft for you too. http://www.kickassoffroad.com/kick_ass_ ... al_003.htm
