Does anyone know if it's been smoky near Union Valley Reservoir or Loon Lake? I'm trying to decide if I should change some upcoming camping plans.

I'm not sure of loon but on Strawberry it was very smokey. Couldn't see beyond the trail in front of you.

Thanks Jason, that's what I was concerned about. Sounds like it would be best to change our plans.

It's pretty smokey up there. It comes and goes depending on the wind.

Um...what?

Pollock Pines is Very Smokey in the mornings. We have had to cancel outdoor activities and hold the students indoors for PE and Break / Lunch.

It clears up to be tolerable by around 2:00ish.

As it cools down at night, all the smoke comes back in. Eyes burn, lungs burn, not fun up here in the mountains for the past week.

Thank you for the update Brian. We've cancelled our weekend camping plans at Gerle Creek. 😥

Since this weekend's plans have been canceled I started thinking about the next weekend's bike ride around Lake Tahoe. I asked the organizers if they knew what they'd do. They don't yet, but sent this webcam link at Heavenly to monitor current conditions - http://www.skiheavenly.com/video-and-in ... -cams.aspx

YUCK!

I was up there yesterday. The smoke in the crystal basin was pretty heavy. Once we crossed the ridge out of the basin (on the trail), it got noticable clearer. In fact it was really nice, all the way through to tahoe. Once in tahoe, the smoke wasn't too bad until around emerald bay, and it got progressively worse until we left the basin on 50 towards Sacramento.
