If anyone is interested... I was chatting with John Arenz over the rubicon repeater the other day while he was up at Spider working on the weather station. He has the station setup to a Ham Radio APRS system. So, the weather station ALWAYS reports the weather conditions at Spider Lake to the internet. And since it is APRS, it is public information so anyone can check it.
To check the weather at Spider Lake (and historical weather data), go to APRS.FI in your browser. In the search box in the top right of the screen, type in "SPIDER" then select the "Spider WX" option (not the boat). This will pull up the current weather data at Spider Lake on a pop up box. To see the historical data, click on "Show Weather Charts". The default option to show from here is the past 24-36 hours. At the bottom of that page, you can select 24 or 48 hours, 1 week or others.
I am currently working with El Dorado County to put in a weather station on APRS up on Alder Ridge, just off of Mormon Emigrant Trail. So, once that is up and live, we will have 24/7 access to weather on the rubicon and winter conditions for MET 🙂 Wohoo!
Enjoy!
