I have been working with the new forest service rec officer as well as the fine folks a PWORA (Del Albright, Ted Cabral, Jane Arteaga, and Kent Reynolds) and have been asked to put together a trail run for the forest service people through Long Canyon and Strawberry. I anticipate that we will need another few weeks for the snow to melt based on the video that went up last week. Del has said he is available on Mondays so I would like to try for the 24th, 31st, or the 7th.
New Dates Aug 9th or Aug 16th. Will meet 8:00ish at the forest service office in Camino and plan to depart around 8:30am. Plan will be to run up long canyon at least to the 2 washout sections @2.9miles in and @3.6miles in.
4260 8 Mile Rd, Camino, CA 95709
From there we can either dart out to the main road on 10NY05 or continue up long canyon. I haven't run past the second wash out so don't know how the trees are or if there are more washouts.
We will then head down packsaddle to strawberry. They key points we want to show off are:
-the trailhead info board/location of the gatekeeper
-the waterfall sections
-v-rock and squeeze rock locations
-the upper new waterfall section (caused by erosion)
-the creek crossings/location of remediation work
-and the desired location of the upper gate keeper.
That gives us approximately 8 stops total and I figure we will do lunch at an appropriate stop along the way. if we assume 15-20 minutes per stop then we are looking at Depart 8:30, air down 9-9:15, 1st washout by 9:30, 2nd washout by 10, Strawberry gatekeeper by 11, V-rock by noon, upper gatekeeper by 3, air up by 3:30 at sign.
The forest service is planning on bringing up to 9 people. If they can get supervisor approval to ride with us then we will need a bunch of seats. If they cant get approval to ride then they will have 4 in Kyles old 2door rubicon and the others in ram 1500s I will bring in on side roads for long canyon and turn them loose after the strawberry gatekeeper. Please follow all club vehicle requirements, not be leaking any fluids, etc., bring your radios, and bring a lunch. I will post up any more info as it comes in.

I should be able to help on any of those dates. I haven't done long canyon. Will you be leading the group Kris? If I put my back seat in I can take three with me provided I don't need to carry much in the way of recovery gear, tools etc.
If we are doing long canyon too, I have run it lots of times, but am unsure of trailhead off kyburz. I know the turn off from the highway, just need to look at my maps for the trailhead.

I will be there too. With my back seat in I can take 3 or only 1 with the seat out. Not much room for cargo with the back seat in.
I can take your cargo if needed. I have rear room.
Thanks Brad. I can fold the rear seat up to take my cargo to and from home. Kris, as we get closer please let me know if you want or it you may need me to carry more than one passenger and I will put the rear seat in.
