I will have my first day run across the Rubicon on June 17.
If you are interested in participating with us, please post up.
Requirements -
At least 1 locker and 35" tires.
This run will cover the entire Rubicon trail in a day. We should be off the trail and eating an early dinner at Burger Lounge in South Shore. Please make sure your rig is in great operating condition, and your driving attitude is in "can do" mode!
Whos up?

Hi guy(s)!
I think you'd need to be comfortable with yourself driving without spotting, at a relatively brisk pace.So long as you are comfortable, I think you'd be ok.
Have you been on the rubicon before?
We are comfortable with it. But ignorance is bliss isn't it and we don't want to hold anyone up on this. Would love to give it as shot because no, we've not been on the Rubicon before. We want to go and are willing to try anything but not at the expanse of everyone else's fun.

So it's really whatever you think...

What might be helpful is see how you feel on the Hell Hole run. There are two difficult sections. See if you are comfortable going through those with minimal or no assistance. The majority of the Rubicon will be like that or harder. If you don't feel ready, there is also a Rubicon intro run that is a loop and much shorter. Not sure if one has been planned or not.

Just a thought I had. . .
You could incorporate Walker Hill into the loop run. It's a short distance from your planned route and will show all that are interested what lays beyond the loop. Easy enough to get everybody (or just those that want to try it) through and give them an actual taste of a true Rubicon obstacle before they try tackling the whole trail.
I used to wheel a lot. . .

Where? Did you propose the run in the trail section? Which day did you decide to go?

I think I'm missing something. What did you just do - "Just a thought I had..."? I think that's the part I didn't see. I inferred it related to the Rubicon Loop Run, but I didn't see an earlier post related to it. I understand your suggestion that the "regular" rubicon can be better sampled by driving a little past Ellis creek to experience Walker Hill.

I haven't been very active, and I was hoping to have my rig done by the trail maintenance, but it's taking longer than I'd hoped. Don't want to wheel it without the skid plates and rocker armor, not even on Strawberry. Don't want to damage it unnecessarily. After it's all installed I hope to get "back at it" within reason; not as hard as I used to wheel. At least not for a while.
I was simply suggesting that including Walker Hill as an option on the beginner Rubicon run would give a truer taste of what the rest of the trail has to offer. Then newer wheelers would have a better idea if they are ready for a full trip across in one day, or hold out for a slower paced run. It was just a thought that occurred to me as I was reading everybody's decision making process when trying to decide if they were ready for a day trip across the trail. When my rig is ready, I will be glad to lead a run.
I used to wheel a lot. . .

Let's plan the Rubicon Loop run as a starter.
Then, once everyone has at least visited the easier parts of the trail, you can assess your comfort level there.
Let me check my weekend schedule and propose a date - something like June 6th...
I'm planning on getting 35" MTRs and a winch is coming in a week. I'd be up for a loop trip on June 6th to test everything out. Should we start a thread for it?

Im glad to hear there's strong interest!
I want to note that this is a fast paced non-spotting run. It is harder than V rock. If you don't feel comfortable driving up v rock, following the rig in front of you without anyone standing there giving advice, please don't attempt this run.
Please have a CB for this run! I will be radioing tips for lines as I'm driving along. A hand held cb is fine too since we will all be close together.

I see a couple of you are trying to upsize tires to make this run.
If so, I have an additional requirement. You must make another run prior to this one to verify your rig can manage those new changes. This can't be a shake down run. Either hit the rubicon loop or hell hole runs. Also run hell hole without spotting to prepare for this run.
