There are several books out. You could also get a trail list from the USFS. Think you cand order the maps on line as well from them so you don't have to go to specific offices for the forest you are in.

One book is the "Guide to Northern California Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails".

I highly recommend the book mentioned above. I would also recommend if you have an android or iphone you can download the EveryTrail app with several trails in northern california that you can download. It will work with the GPS in your phone to put you on the trail. Some trails available include the Rubicon, Fordyce, Dusy Ersham, Black Bear Canyon, Strawberry Lake, etc..
