Barrett Lake is on the calendar for Sept 24th. I proposed this day several months ago in an attempt to have a club activity on the calendar every month. Please do not assume that I am the trail boss or sponsor of this run. There was some confusion on this for the August Rubicon run, even though it was discussed in the thread. A trail boss or sponsor needs to come forward, set the actual date, meeting location, etc for the Barrett Trail Run.

I'll be going on a couple of different days, but can't make this one.
If you're new here be sure this is an actual run since Richard was setting several of them up but he didn't plan to lead or attend the runs.
As a rule on this forum, the person who set up the run is the boss for that run. If it is a standing run (one that occurs every year at a specific time) the highest officer, or trailmaster, is the boss.
I suggest everyone putting stuff on the calender but not planning to be the boss for that run should go back and delete their runs. That being said, I am not a club officer so this is just my opinion.
If you see a run set up by me, I will be on the run and be the boss if a club officer is unable to attend. This includes the upcoming apple hill runs and the two Barett runs I'll plan for this year (weather permitting).

I am an officer, and I agree with this. If you put a run on the calendar, you better plan on attending the run. Otherwise our calendar gets full of runs that just get canceled. That just looks really bad.

Sorry if I'm missing it then, especially since I'm barely acquainted, is there a "Signup thread"? This one seemed to morph from an FYI to a Yes/No role call, to protocol, etc. How does this n00b determine this or other runs are "actual"? Feel free to send my a PM for pointing out the obvious. 😯
For the record, I'd love to attend assuming this is a run my rig is capable of as I'm not familiar with it. (goes to research it)
Edit, nevermind as I'm not ready for this run per the Trail Rating System. :hack:
Difficult - Low range, lockers, and 33" tires required. Body damage is highly possible, drive train damage possible. Four-wheeling experience needed. Trails in this category include Rubicon, Barrett Lake and Fordyce.

Trust me, I've been here for eight years? and I am confused too. We have never had this problem before. Usually the CLUB announces runs or somebody LEADS a run and other sign up to go along. This is the FIRST time that I can remember that a person has started run threads without actually planning on attending them. But we will fix the problem.

You guys are really something. Change is not allowed in this club? The way it was done in the past is the way it is. It was the new president that recognized my efforts to have a club activity on the calendar very month and he added those to the calendar. It was an experiment that obviously has not gone very well. Other clubs in the area do it, but they have more members and have always done it, so it works. During the club meeting right before the run, the list of attendees is reviewed and the trail boss identified. Unfortunately, I had to bury my sister and was not able to attend the meeting before the scheduled Rubicon Run. And yes, I do take offense to the narrow minded comments in this thread. This club should be about having fun, not about petty control issues. There are only a few set events for the year. The Rubicon Roundup which in my opinion needs more structure and occurs too early in the season, but it will probably never change. But opinions are just that, I don't expect anyone to care about mine. Nor do I give a crap about the ones I've read. Shame on me for trying to make the club better. The Barrett Lake Run and Turkey Shoot should both be removed from the calendar for lack of interest. There might be a Barrett Lake run, but it will be done the old way, the way its always been done, the way it suits the attendees. But those of us that want to attend club activities but need more notice will just have to miss it. Change is an interesting thing.

The solution is simple here. A person comitts to a run (like I am just about to do when I nail down a Barett date). They put it on the calendar. If it's short notice they also start a thread on the run. If it's longer notice then they wait until it gets closer and start the thread. Sometimes people start their own thread and ask about a run, which is fine too. Sue's upcoming maintenance run is an excellent example. She puts those on the calendar. In the most recent case I asked questions about it resulting in her starting an official thread. It's usually pretty straightforward just like this.
I will post the Barett run once I confirm some details on my school. I will have an open seat if you'd like to ride a long. It will be a day run. Look for the thread for some more details.

I thought your disclaimer in Post #3 clarified your position.

Wow. I guess my comments struck a nerve.
I had hoped we learned something from the re-scheduled Rubicon Run. New people express interest and look for someone to lead them but no one is there. I see the exact same thing in this Barett thread. I also see that Richard was honest near the top that he wasn't the leader.
I can tell you that I am not an officer but I go on more runs than most, even with my school timing problems. Since school currently dictates my schedule you won't see runs too far in advance from me. I will post runs I know I am making and will also post if I have a seat for some of the newer people to see the trails.
I like people reading the threads and asking questions. If any of the newer people can't make one of those other club's clinics, I am more than willing to meet you out a Prarie City and put on a free one for you. There are many members in the club who'd be more than willing to make a fun morning and lunch out of it at PC. Just let me know and I'll help out!

Well, I (and others) give a crap even if you don't. Everybody's opinion is important in the Posse.
But I like the old way better. When a run is coming up, ask the members who is going to attend, find a leader and have that person post it. I can appreciate that you tried a new system, but it hasn't worked too well. There should be a commitment to the run before we post it for newer wheelers to get excited about just to have it canceled.

I'm excited already 😀
I know you haven't started the thread yet, but if you did . Would day run mean like last year( I had fun on that one)or would it be fast?

we would like to go also. During the week? Hope so . We would try to stay overnite and would like to bring a guest or 2 with their own rigs. They have run barrett more than anyone else I know. We decided last year we would try to run only during the week to avoid the idiots. The trail is a little rough this year.

Too much drama in this thread so I'm hijacking it. 😀 :hijack:
Do you think this truck could make it through Barrett? You know how freaking hard it is to buy a old model Tacoma? They cost about as much as the newer ones. You basically see the ad and decide whether or not your going to pay what they're asking. You don't think about it and you certainly don't bargain with the seller because if you do they're gone.

Yes, this first run for me will be a weekday run. Could be pretty soon. I should know more about my schedule tomorrow.

Don't know yet. It probably depends on who goes and what everyone's plan is. Joe is talking an overnighter, but my first run here would have to be a day trip. I'd like a weekday camping trip on Barrett. We'd probably have the lake to ourselves.
