Strawberry Trail

    Do we still need to some maintanance on the trail? As of our last meeting there was a blocked culvert and a downed tree blocking the trail. Anyone know ? Or should a few of us just go?

    I'm out for the next three weekends - family events this weekend followed by two weekends of on-call.

    I'll be at my cabin this weekend, so it's an easy run up either day. However, I may leave in the afternoon on Sunday.

    Anybody up for a Sunday run to Strawberry for a search and destroy misson to find that big log over the trail? If its still there, we will probably find a bypass around it too. Meet at Fresh Pond at ??am.

    It won't be ready by then. I still have to build a new tie rod and move the front axle forward.

    Thats two... Fresh Pond at 9am. I'll be at the state fair on Saturday. I've got two chain saws but neither are large enough to saw the reported beast. Maybe we can roll it using tow straps wrapped around it.

    Looks like I'm out. Kelly's starting to show some signs. I doubt she'll have it tomorrow, but the doctor has started moving appointments. Sorry guys. 🙁

    Back home, Rick, Kevin and Rich made it to Strawberry and things went better than planned. We found the plugged culvert and Kevin was quick to pull out the shovel and start digging. The pipe inlet was covered with branches and bark, then smothered with silt. Water was flowing all over the road, but after two scoops, water started to flow in the pipe. The large tree was over the top, almost to the Kirkwood vista point. Someone had beat us to it and it was already cut out of the way. Must have been 30" diameter at the trail point. The bypass went around the uphill side of the tree and was not terribly destructive. We had a great time and wish others could have come, pictures to follow.
