The reports I've heard state there was something over 3 feet of snow at elevations around 6000 feet and 4 feet at 7000+.
Brad mentioned the roads are not plowed so snow may be packed if temperatures are not warm enough just to melt it off.

Looks like there's about 6 inches of snow at Strawberry (just under 6000 feet elevation at the highway)

Iron Mtn Road is no where near Strawberry, so it's just for reference.

No worries Tom, I like "pre-runs"! Worse case I take a beautiful drive through the mountains and get all the way to the gate near the top (which was closed as of 2 weeks ago).
I'll put a call in early next week in any case.

Made it up there today.
I was greeted by a sign I had never seen before:
I passed a group of about 15 rigs at the kiosk so I assumed they were another club preparing for their patrol, but they never set up cones or counted vehicles as far as I could tell.
At 5,000 feet I started to see signs of snow:
At 14 miles in (just a little over half way to highway 88) I hit 6,000 feet, the road was covored with snow that was pretty packed down from vehicles and icy:
There were lots of stock rigs and Suburu's up there tempting fate.
I'll call the Department of Forestry on Monday.

Its On like Donkey Kong! There was plenty of snow at 6000 feet last Saturday, just had to drive 14 miles up to find it.
There's snow, so its a go! Who's in?
George, being back in the position, do you have the combination and contact information?
Oh, we're in - Pollock Pines 845ish for a 9 departure...

As it turns out, I'll not be making the trip. The "couple of rust spots" turned into "HOLY S**T!!" when I pulled out the carpets of the XJ this weekend.
Need more POR 15, Herculiner and 2-3 more days to do this job right.

Not sure who's asking this question on my post.....but
1. I have the combo to the lock on the box at the kiosk if its the same as it was a couple years ago.
2. I would love the contact info for someone at the Department of Forestry. It may be in the binder???
3. Glad you're in!
