Detailed logistics coming soon, but expect it to start in the morning. Also considering adding on long canyon and doing both, but I have never done long canyon but some quick google searches tells me that it is easier than strawberry. If someone with experience on the trail wants to chime in confirming that, maybe some info on how long it takes (at 2.5 miles I am thinking not long), I would appreciate it it to help me plan.
My buddy Scott that sat shotgun on the Rubicon day run has an FJ cruiser with a small lift, some basic sliders and all terrains is showing some interest but I want to do a walk around on his rig to make sure there are no huge concerns, recovery points and set an expectation for things that could happen (last time I spotted a stock rig through he scratched his rims and I felt bad about it). I expect some good spotting on a few sections for him so we will likely slow a bit on obstacles with him if he decides to go.
Post up if you are interested in joining and I will get the details refined!

I might be interested in tagging along. This would be my first outing in the new jeep. I have a winch and recovery points and all that fun stuff.
Are you planning to go all the way through or up and back? Also, it might be easier to go down from the 88 side. But I am open for whatever crazy plan you come up with.
Um...what?

That would be awesome Greg! My initial thought was to go all the way through from Strawberry to the Caples maint station, especially if we did Long Canyon first, but I am always open to adjust if we need/want.

Long canyon is easy. It has a nice view point up top, near mushroom rock. You cut off at Kyburz, 9 miles below the 42 mile normal turn off. Time varies based on pace and confidence of the group. The trail ends on the top of packsaddlepass, about 4 miles from the strawberry canyon cut off. I'd run both since it would be different and fun.

Yes, that is the conversation I want to have since I did not do it last time, are you willing to let that happen so he can make the decision

If someone is worried about a scratched rim this may be the wrong sport for them. You may want to think about not including that type of vehicle.

For Long Canyon, have Avenza up on your phone to see where you are going because there are some old logging cuts that make following the trail a little confusing towards the top before and after the lookout. Take the left side of the loop on the way out to the lookout and the return will have a decent rock garden for 37s and long wheel base, TJs can get through on 33s. Once above the lookout there are a bunch more logging side-offshoots that dirt bikes and UTVs are keeping well traveled so the trail can be difficult to follow without Avenza. Most of the offshoots end up looping back into the trail so it isn't the end of the world but good practice using avenza for future nevada type runs.

Good info, thanks! I'm using Gaia but will be sure to have a map up if we decide to do long canyon. At this point I am leaning towards Strawberry up, lunch, then back down the trail to 50.

I wish I could go but I'm in wedding preparation mode for our son's wedding at our home on August 14th. At least I won't have to worry about Greg trying to steal my Atlas T-case for his LJ.
You should be worried about me stealing your tires and wheels too. If I plan my build right, we could be twins.
Just know I'm the taller one...
Um...what?

I don't even air down for Long Canyon when I want a quick day trip.
I think that answers the difficulty question
How long does it usually take you to run it?
Hour or two taking my time.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

You're taller than me, I never noticed. I've thought about going to 37's and beadlocks. If I do I will give you my tires and wheels. Maybe in late August or early September if I can figure out what to get and how to get them mounted.

Pending those upcoming details(), I think I’m in for this run. Looking forward to seeing the plans (hoping they include long canyon) and getting out there.
