In order to make the Snake Lake run on Friday I need to replace my cracked oil pan. After watching a few videos I think I need to ask for help with this repair. According to the videos I watched, you need to remove the exhaust and possibly cut and re-weld the exhaust. I ordered the parts (pan and gasket) which are supposed to be in Sunday afternoon. Is there anyone who might be able to help me with this repair? I already drained the oil and I have a broken upper control arm bracket that my son will be welding back on for me tomorrow, so I probably need to do the repair here at my house. My son can also weld the exhaust if needed. Thanks!

Let me know when and I'll try to make it. Will have to be an evening for me with this darn work thing getting in the way of everything. 🙂
Thanks Kevin. I first tried to disconnect the exhaust at the cat but the bolt heads are under the skid plate and I couldn't get enough space and leverage to loosen them. Next I tried to disconnect the exhaust at the engine end. The pipes balloon out making it difficult to get to the bolt heads. I either don't have the right tools and/or the aptitude to get the exhaust off at that end either. At this point I either need to get help or take it to the shop. My local shop is usually at week or more out so if I go that route then I won't be able to make the run unless he can squeeze me in. If you think we can do this then that would be great, otherwise I will take it to the shop. I will call him first thing tomorrow to see if he can squeeze me in or not. I will then know my options. I'm available Monday through Wednesday. If we try it, the sooner the better for me.

I think I can make it Monday evening. I'll confirm and let you know.
What you will want to do during the day is get some PB Blaster and spray the bolts and entire flanges a couple of times. Hopefully that will help loosen things up. Also check if they use a gasket. We'll want to replace those as well if they do. If I think of anything else, I'll let you know.
I'll look at my old thread and bring any additional tools we might need.

Found the thread that helped me when I did the rear main seal on my YJ...

Lesson learned? The very first mod I've put on every Jeep I've ever owned was an oil pan skid.
I have a steering box and fuel tank skid but for some reason never put an oil pan skid on. I called 4wheels parts and they have an oil pan skid but the gentleman I spoke to said he bought, but hasn't yet installed, a Skid Row engine, transmission and oil pan skid. He said it is far better protection so that's the way I'm going to go. Would you agree that this is the way to go John?

I ran the Tera, but I couldn't find that style any more.
It was very similar to this one; http://extrememetalproducts.co.....plate.html
That one you posted seems awfully expensive. It doesn't take that much to protect it.
I used to wheel a lot. . .

Huge thanks to Kevin for coming to my house to work on my Jeep. We got the rear main seal replaced and the new oil pan on. It was 4.5 hours of non-stop work. All that needs to be done now is to reattach the exhaust, change the oil filter and add oil. Hopefully no leaks and I'm good to go. Once it is drivable, hopefully late tomorrow afternoon, then I will drive it to my son's house to have him re-weld the broken rear upper track bar bracket. Thanks also to my friend and coworker Scott and my son Brian for their assistance.

How was the exhaust re-install? I hope it went back on easier than it was to get off. 🙂
It went good. We put the pipes back on and fired the Jeep up and had a loud exhaust noise so we had to loosen it and then wiggle the exhaust to get the pipes to seat better. We tightened it all up again and it ran fine. Took it for a test drive and there were no oil leaks so it appears that everything is fine!
