Per the Rubicon Trail Facebook page:
"This Winter has been epic! As of May 20, 2017, monitoring protocols have been met so the current conditions warrant CLOSURE of the Rubicon Trail. Loon Lake to the Intertie is not effected by this closure, however, it is important from a safety standpoint that only very prepared vehicles and experienced drivers attempt traveling on the trail in this area".

Wow. It's turning into Barrett Lake. Pretty soon all the trails will be open for one month each year.

I have seen a lot of muddy streams and brown rivers that had nothing to do with off-roading. It's called erosion and it is normal, especially in wet years. Politics as usual!

I went by WFO yesterday to get some parts. Danny told me the Rubicon closure is more of a restriction to limit less capable rigs due to difficult conditions . He said he knows several people who were allowed past the "closure" because they had very capable rigs. So perhaps the trail isn't totally closed.

There was a water jam at soup bowl. They said that there was 3-4 feet of standing water. A team went up in conjunction with the Forest service and unclogged the ice dam that was created.
I know a few people that have been up there. They said still plenty of snow making it difficult to even get to soup bowl. I'm sure after this weekend a lot of the snow has been moved around.
Also, a few videos have circulated about the 1st Fordyce water crossing. A buggy on 54's attempted it but was starting to float. 1200 was the flow. I'll wait.
Um...what?

Looked for that video but it was less than a minute long nice rig with a girl driving it and she had the smarts enough to pull out before she got swept away
