I talked with John and Larry and they were almost to truckee.
Sounded like they don't know what all is broken, but have parts for the front.
Sure would be nice if one had a ham radio and we could know for sure...

Smoke signals wouldn't help much today. 🙁

I tried, but they needed to get on the road earlier than I could get away.
Justin's been talking about getting his license. Maybe he or some of the other guys up there will look into it now.
Dan-H SubscriberDan-H SubscriberI wonder if I can reach the repeater from my house.

From near the factory outlets, my Yaesu FT60 can reach the 805 repeater in Placerville but not the Spider Lake repeater.- Guest former userGuest former user
7: 20 Update.
I just got off the phone with Larry. They made it to the staging area around 5:30. Got to the top of Cadillac and got ahold of Troy on the CB. The group is limping out toward the Loon Lake entrance and are past Little Sluice. Reports of the front end damage appear to be greatly exaggerated and the front is fine. Justin has a broken rear axle and broken spider gears in the rear. John and Larry are headed to the Loon Lake entrace (via the highway) to drop off the spare axle.
Oh yeah...sounds like John confused himself. He posted Old Sluice, but they were headed to Big Sluice. 😀
Fred SubscriberFred SubscriberThanks for the update.
Justin should be able to pull out the spider gears and drive home in front wheel drive.
I hope John can return the new spindles.
You say the group is heading back. Does that mean everyone or just the smaller group he was with?

I'm not sure who is going what direction. I'm not even sure if Troy is with Justin, just that they managed to get him on the CB.

That's what I was thinking, but I'm not real up on my 44s. I'm guessing that's what they're doing.

JohnDF Member Joined: July 2003JohnDF started this Member Joined: July 2003We're back. The original message from the Sherrif said Big Sluice. I also assumed it was Big Sluice because their original plans were to come out Cadilac after spending the night at Buck. Turns out they headed out Loon to make better time (irony). Justin Broke in Old Sluice.
We ran into the guys that called it in at the Tahoe staging area. They told us that Justin and Brad were waiting at Old Sluice for us with a broken rear axle. We wheeled into Cadilac and got Troy and Brad on the CB. They told us Justin and Rob were limping out the Loon side. So Larry and I headed back out, around Tahoe, down Hwy 50, and got lost on Ice House. We found Justin and Rob by the side of the road working on the Jeep. They were able borrow a rear shaft from somebody on the trail to get them off. I had Justin's spare rear shafts, so after a quick swap, we started home.
Larry had fun in my Jeep. We had over 50 cases of death wobble durring the trip. One time on Hwy 80 trying to pass a big rig. That was a little hairy. But everything ended up well. I'm tired, I'm going to bed.I used to wheel a lot. . .

It's early and I haven't had enough caffeine yet, but I started to read that as Larry had fun in your Jeep with 50 cases of beer. 😂

Thanks again to everyone who posted up to help and a big thanks to John and Larry. I am sure Justin will post later. I know he was beat after a very long day..
In short, Justin snapped his driver side rear alloy axle going up Old sluice. His tire was bound up and he hit the gas and there was a very very very loud bang. We had to remove both rear axles and the carrier to get the broke axle shaft out. After cleaning all the chunks out, Justin put the broke shaft back in and wheeled out on it. He only had front wheel drive. Lots of strapping and winching and about 5 hours later we were at Loon lake. I will let Justin tell the rest.__________________ 'If we ever forget that we're one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under."- Ronald Reagan
