I will be heading up to June Lake in next two weeks and was planning on doing some dispersed camping.  June Lake is bear country and keeping food inside one's Jeep and/or tent is not a good idea as I recall.  Anyone have thoughts on the best way to store food these days other than in Bear bags hanging from trees.

I have heard some chatter lately that the bear bag method is tough to get to work properly (too many variables to get right) and some bears have figured it out. I use a near bear proof cooler and make it bear proof with a ratchet strap, and do the same in smaller locking cases i have similar to pelican cases (thanks Brad!) for dry goods.

Snail Trail boys had a good suggestion on top of that to cable those items to a tree or outside your rig on a wheel so they can’t drag them off.

Glad to be of service!  I use cases/ice chests that fully seal.  then I store them out of site.  I have not had any problems.

Backpacking, I use a bear canister. But like Jamie, some ice chest claim to be bear proof. I think covering them so they don't look like ice chests also helps deter. I've thought about ratchet strapping them to the bottom side of my skid plates using my rock rails. Lol!

Um...what?
