Anyone have this to maybe loan?

I'll check if parts stores have it for loan or not as well.

Thought to ask here anyways.

Thanks

Ouch.

After a good bit of research into the matter, which is a case-by-case situation, flogging of a local machinist, and interrogation of some guy named Joe around here, the engine is staying put. Last night new camshaft went in, distributor set, and timing set. Exception is getting the darn cam key dowel fully seated. 👿

Are you pulling the cam to replace it or just replace cam bearings? If replacing the cam, what grind are you replacing it with?

Did it full cam swap. Kept the cam bearings.

Grind #2030

So the install has been completed: 90% Remaining 10% is assorted stuff.

What did I do?

1. camshaft change
2. double roller timing chain
3. water pump
4. new intake manifold
5. tune up

This is the first time ever I've done engine work. It was darn fun, especially vs. the doubters. 😀 Big learning experience and no regrets. So here is a video of yesterday's big moment. Cameo by the new VP.

Could not use my K&N kit due to the body lift. Jeff had a spare 14x3 to toss on there.

Only 1 glitch right now. Code for injector #5 open circuit. So, no fuel, but there is spark as tested with a timing light. Picked up a new injector today at lunch...and crossing fingers this evening. Seriously...only 1 glitch like this. Well, might be couple others...but I'll leave that for another day. 😀

Then get some metal fabbed up for a winch bumper!! I don't want to put the stock bumper back on. 👿

This is looking GREAT!! What is the engine performance gain supposed to be and how far did you lower the torque band?

Fixed the glitch. These things don't shoot the fuel when like this...

Up and running.

HP bump somewhere like 20-30, but they may be on high side. Torque ~10-15 ft-lbs potentially, I'm not sure. You say lower the torque band? no comprendo.

Thanks Bender

Looks good! I've heard that having a red intake manifold increases HP by 10%. Its time to get those bumpers going...

By changing overlap, lift and advance/retard of cam timing the torque curves can be changed. Just curious if that was part of your plan.

Here is the cam card details. I was partial to torque, but not greatly. Most importantly to keep cost down, picked a decent cam with little more lift, but not so much to go out of spec for remainder of stock valvetrain. Down the road...considering roller rockers to get even more lift.

Additional lift, all other things being equal, will give you a better breathing at mid-range and top end. Kind of like making the supply lines bigger.

Gibson headers. Had good luck with them in the past. They did the design and R&D. Mopar put their part # and a carb # on them. Welding Required. Dyno sheet went with the truck but if i remember correct it picked up 25-40 ft.lbs from off idle to about 4800 rpm. Blue and Red ? With Jeff around I thought it would be Black and Yellow Black and Yellow Black and Yellow Black and Yellow Black and Yellow Black and Yellow

Yea, I help you shop. Black and yellow comes off just fine with garnet in a blast cabinet. Sniff, sniff ? Is that a stroker motor I smell ? ( I wish )
