What time do we meet up there? Anyone going this coming Sunday the 17th?

Greg, I was planning to go up on Saturday the 16th only. Maybe by the time the meeting this Thursday, Kris will have heard what the sign-ups look like for both days. If there's a lot of folks going Saturday, maybe I can change to Sunday. I still don't know the time or the location of the AM meeting.

Meeting location is the trailhead at Lower Blue Lake.  There will be signs at the parking lot but basically just drive to the south end of lower blue lake below the dam. Meeting time is 8:30.  Below is a google map link to the location.

I would love to help out. I can't do an overnight but I might be able to do a one day this weekend. I would like to go with other club members so either Saturday or Sunday is fine with me.

Jeff,

I'm still planning to go up Saturday. I'm willing to meet with you wherever. I've not been to the meeting place before, so any where between you & there would be good for me. Gil may be going as well. Let's finalize all this at the meeting this Thursday night.

Gil/Jeff,

Yes, this Saturday, meeting at Pollack Pines sounds good. I think we should plan on leaving Pollack Pines around 6:30A, so we can get there early enough to tow rocks instead of manhandle them! Say we meet at 6:00A?

Yes but there are a ton of gorgeous dispersed camp sites on the trail itself, a few good ones less than a mile in and some amazing ones in the woods to the left of the second creek crossing where the re-route was completed.

Also the motherload rock crawlers are at a group camp site nearby and we are invited.

Unfortunately I can't stay overnight on Friday or Saturday or otherwise I would.

As of the meeting last night, those who would like to caravan to the starting point will meet at the Pollack Pines Shell at 6:00A, leaving at 6:30A. The start there is 8:30A. No camping allowed at the Shell! See you there!

Thanks for going guys. I have notified them that you will be coming and that you are ready to haul and have chainsaw certs.  Not likely any saw work needed but at least 1 of you should have a saw to be safe.  Sean from the forest service might be wanting to appoint someone medic lead (which may fall to one of you since chainsaw requires CPR and First Aid) and they can always use help with setup, cooking, and takedown of lunch.

Before you guys leave, get an idea of the remaining work.  Last weekend we were ahead of schedule by more than a day on saturday and sunday sounded like they were still ahead.  If you guys get most of the material hauled in then it might only be this weekend left for work.

Well, Jeff Root & myself attended the Deer Valley work on Saturday. It was 30 degrees when we arrived in the morning, which Jeff was topless & windowless! We both hooked up to trailers, got loaded with rocks & headed to the 2nd creek crossing that needed them. It took an hour out & an hour back for a second load. My trailer lost a rear shackle bolt & a broken leaf spring. We replaced the bolt & I limped back to the start & dropped the trailer. I returned & helped unload & spread the rocks. Jeff's second load broke a leaf spring, which he also limped back & dropped the trailer at the start as well. We were served lunch at the work site & called it a day. 1 Jeep broke both front leaf spring shackles at the work site, so Jeff & I help chain everything together & he managed to limp back to the start slowly.

Parts of the trail were rough, especially towing a trailer full of heavy rocks, but all went well & most of the work was done. They were easily going to finish the rocking & some trial border tree lining on Sunday. A lot of people showed, so consequently a lot of work got done. It was a worthwhile effort on everyone's behalf. Cal 4WD, the forest service rangers & environmentalists were present all day.

I hope that ultimately when the Strawberry trail needs rock hauling & placement, goes this well. Fun & proactive effort by all.

The work days for September 23rd and 24th have officially been canceled.  Good work to those who helped, all desired work was completed as of Sunday.  If you already have the weekend off then go and run the trail anyway.  It is a neat trail with some amazing dispersed camp sites but also short enough for a day trip.

I would vote to start posting interest for a club run on this trail, if it can be squeezed in with other runs & if the weather holds out. Anyone interested?
