Mendocino and 6 Rivers national forests have already put them in effect. El Dorado, Tahoe, Plumas, and Stanislaus are all likely going into effect soon (before the end of the month).
Just a reminder, campfire permits are needed to use stoves and BBQs even after restrictions are in place. No charcoal BBQs or open fires after restrictions are in place, only propane stoves and BBQs.
Campfire permits are available at the following link. Click the big button, type your info, watch the 3 minute video, pass the multiple choice test, print the permit.

Fire conditions in the higher Sierra are not bad at all. However, because resources are stretched thin with fires at lower elevations I would not be surprised to see fire restrictions put into place at higher elevations. Fire fuel moister content, fire weather, fire history and a number of other factors play into whether fire restrictions are put into place or not. Since somebody's job might be on the line if they fail to put fire restrictions into place, restrictions at higher elevations will probably be imposed soon.
