It's on the calendar for a new years day run.
We'll have more details once we get a relatively consistent view of the weather and snow levels. We'll probably end up at Wentworth, Iron Mtn, or Up by strawberry.
Everyone is welcome. Please plan to bring a shovel and at least one recovery strap in your vehicle. Most vehicles will have lockers and winches, but they will not be a requirement for this trip. You will still be required to have front and rear recovery points.
Please check back for additional details (meeting place, departure time, destination, etc.).

just got back from the white stuff 😉 we tried to get up to Wentworth but it got too deep to plow through...even for the guys with 37s. Then the real snow plow showed up and that took care of that. But, it was cool to watch the guy spin all 10 wheels trying to push snow 😀 10-wheel drive, fully locked and he still had to take running starts to get anywhere.
We got to blaze trail from the turn off from Ice House and had a blast. Snow wasn't as deep as I've been able to plow before, only about 2' but the powder was soooo soft it was nearly impossible to pack so we sank pretty fast.
Iron Mt might be a mess on the first. Have you ever tried going up Grizzly Flat Rd? went up there last year on what would have been a busy Sat on Iron Mt (closed due to power line down on the road) and it was just our group.
I'll see if I can make this one as well.

One road I was thinking about is the road between Ice House campground and Wrights Lake Road. It's paved so it would be legal and I've never heard of that road being plowed. I'm not sure what the current snow conditions are there though.
what about Peavine Ridge? we took the left turn onto that road (was plowed but still had a foot of show) and then turned Rt onto Bryant Spring Rd and drove over new snow for a couple miles to the gate...then the plow showed up...guy said they had to keep it open for the power comp.
The right hand turn onto Peavine from Icehouse hadn't been plowed that day. Do they keep that road open to Chimney Flat?
To get to the Grizzly flat/Capps Crossing area you take Sly Park from Pollock Pines but turn right at the end of the lake to Pleasant Valley and them Somerset. Turn left onto Grizzly Flat Rd and head up...then onto Canyon Rd and Capps Crossing Rd that eventually comes out on North South Rd. Last year our group cleared 3 trees which was fun...got us into virgin snow 😀

Yes, Fred was referring to the peavine ridge road (or actually the newere peavine ridge road). The original road is also an option. It is "paved". We'll it was 30 years ago.
I'm fine with that road or the one Chris suggested off of sly park. If Chris will be there, I'd like to try the sly park selection because I'm not familiar with it and it sounds pretty easy to get to.

Definitely a fun trip - with a good snowball fight. It was nice to see a new area. Here are the pictures I took.

Great pics and great fun! Perfect weather as well. That was a good trip without any problems. We only saw about 6 vehicles in the tougher stuff, but saw lots of people down lower. Many had kids and bondfires going. the trail wasn't too much further than Iron Mtn, and will eventually connect into Iron mtn if you can get across North/South rd.

I've been wondering if that creek crossing we were getting to is the one where there's a bridge and a small campground.
Edit) This is the campground I'm thinking of. I think we were pretty close. http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/eldorado/docume ... _capps.pdf
