The club has volunteered to perform two road patrols this year.
We will be monitoring traffic on Iron Mountain Road during the day posted above. This effort involves handing out materials to travelers and managing a vehicle count.
We will meet at the Pollock Pines Subway, just north of hwy 50, on the Sly Park exit. Meeting time: 830
We will leave for the road by 9AM, stopping by the information station to gather supplies.
We will set up the checkpoint some where we have snow for family play, or safety, depending on the weather.
The club monitors the station until about 3-4 PM at which time we return the supplies to the information station and head out for the day.
Most of the day is free so many people will take off for snow runs. We usually set up where kids can play in the snow and hopefully have a fire pit going all day long. We can coordinate food/supplies/fire pit details as the date gets closer but be sure to mark your calender.
The new trailmaster will get to lead this event!

I hope we get some snow... I had to go fix a 65" Sony TV over at Kirkwood this past Monday. Wasn't sure how much snow there would be, so I took Omo Ranch over to 88. When I came home, I took a look at the Sno-Park on the 88 side where M.E.T. comes out. Ran into my cousin from Hayward there snowmobiling. 3 Caltrans trucks there said they plowed some of the road 2 weeks ago to get some stuck cars out. Gate was still open, so I drove on down. 2WD the whole way. Maybe 8-10 inches of hard pack at most up high. By the time I got to Silver Fork Rd, there were the typical 2 grooves to the pavement. North-South Rd was pretty much clear and dry.

Thats if they'll let the reservoirs fill up, when it does rain they open up the gates and let it all out. Their so Flood paranoid that they rather have a drought. I don't think Folsom has been full for over 7-10 years maybe more. And that's the way most of them are. I think Natomas is the only one keep up to level, wouldn't want the rowing people to drag them high dollar boats on the rocks.
If I can't build it, then it's something that should be bought.

We may get some snow tonight and tomorrow. Anyone interested in driving up there on Saturday and seeing what did happen?
I was watching the news this morning and the "roving reporter" was at Blue Canyon ... no snow, just wet as the majority of the snow has fallen at the higher altitudes.
Iron Canyon Road peaks at just under 8000' so, if there is snow, it will likely be at the Sno-Park level is at ~7300'.

FYI, a very light dusting in Pollock Pines Thursday Night. Nothing stuck on the roads, just in the roofs, trees, and on the grass. All melted today (Friday). IMR or MET may have gotten a little more up towards the top. I drove all the way through back in December, with about a foot at the most up top at the open gate. This would be the first rain / snow since that trip. There was very little snow at Silver Fork Rd when I passed it. Shouldn't have any trouble going all the way across.
I will be an class tomorrow for foster / adoption

I called before I went up to Kirkwood and they "said" it was closed. So I drove around through Omo Ranch. On the way home, I checked the gate on the 88 side and it was wide open. Caltrans was parked near there said it had been open for over 3 weeks (November), from when they had to plow in and get a few stuck cars out. I went on down in 2WD most of they way, came across 3-4 trucks heading up to 88, The gate was wide open Dec 22

I drove up MET on Saturday, February 1st. There is snow about five miles from the top. I saw 3 pickups, 2 jeeps, 5 toyota’s and 3 snow machines. The gate was locked at the top. There is a snowmachine trail to the right of the gate. It was a beautiful day up there! Hopefully we get more snow!
