Thanks to the storm last night, it looks like I will be having my own, private chainsaw class on my property! This oak tree is huge. Look at it compared to the size of the gait. It's probably 250 plus years old. On the positive side, there will be less shade on the swimming pool and plenty of firewood for a few years!

I have a flat bed trailer and access to a saw mill. Any chance I could buy that long straight section of trunk off you? Assuming it isn't rotted out.

I was going to cut it up for firewood because I'm getting low on wood for next year but we can talk about it. I wasn't planning to cut it up until we get some dry weather so no rush on my part.

Kris,
You make MacGyver look like he was playing house! Man, you have every resource available for the most random things I've ever seen! LOL!

Saw where the class has been moved to the 17th-18th. Do you know, Kris, is everyone that signed up for the 10-11th are still good to go with this new one? Thanks.
Everyone has been automatically moved to the 17th-18th and they are still planning one additional class TBD. I cant make the 17th-18th so if anyone can go, please do. After this winter there will be many trees down so we will need as many people as possible with certifications for the patrols (likely more than 2 this year due to timing of snow and the potential for trail work).

From Kyle:
"We will be meeting at 8 at the Placerville Ranger District office Friday, and Saturday, out in the field, location to be announced Friday, but it will be local. Bring a lunch and any safety gear you have (Eye protection, gloves, chaps, etc.). We will provide gear to anyone who needs it. If you have your own saw you are more than welcome to use it for the field day, but we can also provide a saw if needed."
For those who cant make this date (a few of us), I have notified Kyle of the need for an additional date. We will have at least 7 slots open to our club so let me know who wants dibbs. I have added maybes from the club just to fill slots.

So it was a great class. I learned a lot about cutting with and handling the chainsaw. A whole lot of information this weekend. Guy and I cut a lot of trees today. The seneros and the trees they found for use was great. Overall a fun class the instructors explained everything before, during and after our cuts.
