My Jeep was driving okay until we turned on to Wrights Lake Rd. Then I started getting death wobble. It just kept getting worse and worse. When we turned into the parking lot to air down, I noticed that I couldn't steer my Jeep very sharp (almost no steering). I checked under my Jeep and found that my steering box had ripped off the frame 😯

Thanks to Brad who had his welder, Dan who had his grinder, Keane who lent his battery, and Joe who had welding skills we were back in action in under an hour. It held up great for the whole trip and I certainly didn't baby it 😀

Lesson: Fix your death wobble before it gets bad enough to rip your steering box off lol

I used to wheel a lot. . .

Oh ya...Brad, Earl, Fred, Don, and myself were WIMPS. We turned around at 4:00 after the last rock garden. We were off the trail before dark, stopped for dinner, and were home by the time the other crew was just getting off the trail embarassed

I used to wheel a lot. . .

One last thing...

Brad still remembers how to drive his Jeep, even after all that time off. I think he had fun and he didn't scratch his Jeep, so maybe we'll see more of him on the trails lol

What are you going to do about your broken steering box? I keep telling you that if you bring your Jeep over, we can weld up your old track bar bolt holes and drill new ones. I would also suggest that you get a steering box brace 😀

I need to remove my steering box to finish the welding, I need a new tie rod built, I need to buy a 5/8" heim joint for my track bar, and then we can redrill the mount hole. I also need a blue torch to adjust my drag link.

They are still there. I'm standing right in front of them. The camera angle makes it look like there aren't any more rocks after that point.

Good. It was nice to be camping close so we had the flexibility to extend the day a bit. Larry and Mike didn't have much luck finding a campsite on Friday night so we were in the "walk in" section, but it worked out. They said it was really noisy on Friday night but everything was good last night.
