OfflineBear Valley Loop Trail (Sierra Trek pre-run) Saturday July 27th: This is a club run open to anybody with a stock, high clearance 4X4. This will be a pre-run for the Sierra Trek Outer Limits run that our club is leading two weeks later in August. The purpose of the run is to evaluate trail conditions, do planning and any necessary trail maintenance in preparation for the Outer Limits Run. Typically we have done some minor pruning and we mark the trail with flagging for the Outer Limits Run.
The Bear Valley Loop Trail is rated as an easy trail. It is a combination of dirt roads, dirt trails and rock trails. All of the winch hills have easy bypasses for those who want to avoid the winch hills. The staging area for the trail is located about 20 minutes north of Truckee on Hwy 89. The trail tends to be dusty and does have some brushy areas that may need to be trimmed back. Mild cowboy pinstriping can occur.
Run details: Meet at the Truckee Shell gas station on Hwy 89, just south of I-80 (10278 CA-89, Truckee) at 8:30am on Saturday July 27th. Plan to depart at 9:00am sharp or sooner if everyone is ready to go. Staging and drivers meeting will be on Cottonwood Road just east of Hwy 89 near Little Truckee Summit (note: there are vaulted toilets on the opposite side of Hwy 89 at the Little Truckee Summit OHV/Snowmobile staging area if in need). We will stop for lunch along the trail or ideally at the Bear Valley Campground with has vaulted toilets. We should be off the trail mid to late afternoon depending on how much maintenance is needed. Ideally there will be time to play on the winch hills. This is an opportunity for anyone who needs to do their member BBQ to get that done and become a full member.

OfflineStill trying to nail down the details but will likely be camping Friday night with the family at the bear valley camp ground. I would meet y'all at the air-down location about 9:20am. There is limited to no cell signal in most of the area so I will be sure to verify directly with Jeff before going off grid.
Numbers and a hand full of maps are printed, I will be laminating over the next week as I get a chance.

OfflineKathy and I are also planning to camp at Bear Valley Campground on Friday night (maybe even head up Thursday evening) if I can ride along with someone on Saturday. I would like to tow our travel trailer with my F150 and then drive my truck to the staging area and ride along with someone on the run on Saturday. Maybe I can ride with Kris from the campground to the staging area if he has room otherwise, I will drive my F150 to the staging area provided I can ride with someone else on Saturday. If I can't ride along with someone else, then I will just drive my Jeep up on Saturday morning with everyone else.

OfflineI decided not to camp so I will be going up with everyone else who is going on Saturday. See you at the the Truckee Shell gas station on Hwy 89 at 8:30 am Saturday. Please bring loppers or any other tools you have for brush trimming. I will bring a chainsaw just in case we need one.

OfflineMade it home last night about 8pm. Picked up the wiener from Grandmas and got home and unloaded. Stace and the baby were in bed before 9. I cleaned the jeep off just so we could see out of the back windows. Had an awesome day, so much fun and a beautiful day. The weather was amazing and fantastic views! Such a great group and so glad John’s wife Aileen went with us, hopefully this was the first of many trips with us. Yes Brian was the only one that made it up winch hill 2 despite his antique Toyota. We got to the end of the trail and said Toyota gave us a good excuse to visit and spend time with each other, it’s so great when we all work together to get everyone home. Who knew a random stick quickly carved can work great as a temporary rotor spacer to keep the other 3 brakes working to get your Toyota home. I still get to say I’ve never left anyone on the trail and everyone got home with their vehicles. Another fantastic day with the Gold Hills Posse group!

That's because he was the only one who tried to go up winch hill 2. If you look at photos in the gallery, you will also see that Brian couldn't make it up ball pein hill with me pushing him. Photo's don't lie!
