Is anyone interested in doing a Deer Valley run on October 24th. This would be a south to north run. If time allows or if people want to do some night wheeling, those interested could also run Strawberry from south to north and come back home via Hwy 50. According to the Forest Service, Hermit Valley campground off of Hwy 4 where the trail starts, is open for camping. Due to extreme fire danger no ignition sources are allowed: no campfires, propane or gel fuel camp stoves and no smoking. That could possibly change by the 24th. Here are the details:
Club minimum requirements apply. Both trails are moderate so 33's with one locker or 35" or larger with no locker but one locker is recommended.
Camping option: Meet at Hermit Valley Campground on Friday October 23rd. We can make arrangements for those who want to go as a group if that works out. If so we will set a time to meet in Angles Camp. Kathy and I may go up Friday morning to enjoy the area and to see if we can find some fall colors.
Day run option: Meet at the McDonalds in Angles Camp at 8:00 a.m. and leave for the trailhead at 8:30 a.m. with a fuel top off stop in Arnold. Arrive at Hermit Valley Campground at approximately 10 to 10:30 a.m. We will hit the trail as soon as possible after the group airs down. If I go up on Friday I would like to have a volunteer to take charge of leading the day run group to the trailhead.
Bring plenty of drinking water as Hermit Valley Campground has no potable water. You may want to bring extra fuel depending on your rig. I believe there is a gas station at Kirkwood but I'm sure it is expensive.
Here is a link to the location of Hermit Valley Campground, which is located north of Hwy 4 (on your left) right off the Hwy: https://www.google.com/maps/pl.....authuser=0
Here is a link to the the Forest Service's website for Hermit Valley Campground. The map is misleading so use the Google map and my directions to locate the campground: https://www.fs.usda.gov/recare.....ecid=14847

Here is an update:
Day run: Dale Clement, John MacDonnell, Sean Rose
Friday-Saturday overnight: Me (Jeff Root) and maybe Steve Lujan and Mike (sorry, don't have Mike's last name)
Maybe: Kevin Hebert, some of Steve's other friends, Gil and Roy.
The Tahoe National Forest now allows propane stoves in designated campgrounds. I will be monitoring Stanislaus and Hermit Valley to see if they ease their restrictions. It will be in 20's at night so be sure to prepare for cold weather even if you are only on the day run because you never know if you might get stuck overnight. I would recommend that you share your phone number with others in your group so you can notify them in case of any last minute calculations or issues so they aren't waiting in Angle Camp unnecessarily for you. Please make sure you arrive on time in Angles Camp so you don't hold the day run group up.
I will continue to provide updates. I don't know about the rest of you, but Kathy and I are really looking forward to this trip!

Good news, the ban on propane stoves has been lifted and the order banning campfires expires October 22nd but there will be updates after the 22nd. So it is possible that we may be able to have a campfire on our trip. I called to verify this information. I will continue to check updates after the 22nd.
Here is the order lifting the ban on propane stoves:
Regional Order No. 20-22
USDA Forest Service
Pacific Southwest Region
Emergency Fire Restrictions
Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(a), and to provide for public safety and
protect natural resources, the following acts are prohibited on National Forest System lands
within the Pacific Southwest Region. This Order is effective from October 16, 2020, through
October 22, 2020.
1. Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire.
36 C.F.R. § 261.52(a).
2. Smoking. 36 C.F.R. § 261.52(c).
Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:
1. Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads,
Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting
them from this Order.
2. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire
fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
3. Persons using a portable lantern or stove using gas, jellied petroleum, or
pressurized liquid fuel within a Developed Recreation Site.

Interested in going, pending response from Jeff on question I PM’d about.
Thanks for pointing out the PM. Reply sent.
Thanks for the response Jeff.
Count me in for the Sat. day run. But, since I am staying at my family's place near Dorrington (up HWY 4 past Arnold), I will plan to meet at Hermit Valley campground by 10am so I dont have to backtrack down the hill to Angeles Camp.
What HAM frequency or CB channel will we be on?
