Run update: The caples fire means the upper part of the trail may be closed. If the closure is still in place by the weekend then we will be patrolling the access road to the trail and the 11N36, 11N22, 17E78 loop.
The other day the news reported that they expected full containment of the Caples Fire on Friday but as of now it is only 53% contained. Air quality could be a problem. Yesterday the Tahoe Basin had poor air quality due to the fire. Typically the smoke from fires like this will drift down slope at night and then shift up slope in the morning and afternoon as temperatures rise. Hopefully the weather conditions on Saturday will be in our favor and send the smoke elsewhere.

This looks good & agree with John, great job!
I guess that V-Rock needs help as well, but without transporting an excavator in, how could this be done & where are the rocks that were there? Buried? Kris, didn't you have a conversation with the contractor who was there about making the situation similar to what it used to be? I understand the trail is open & has been approved to do so, so by what means could this change be made without creating an act of congress, literately?

Our plan was to use the rock trailer to bring rocks from the side of the trail on the 88 side down to V-rock. We were stopped by the caples fire and subsequent forest order that has the trail, silverfork, packsaddle and a bunch of roads in Cody Meadow area closed. There is no issue with the work done at the trailhead or doing similar work at V-rock. While an excavator or an act of congress would solve the problem faster, doing the work with the trailer and winches will keep providing us with an excuse for BBQs on the trail for the foreseeable future.
