That was one of the best trips we have been on in a long time. Brian (16 and his first wheeling trip) got to see what a club and good people are all about. Every person out there helped out in some way or another and made the trip go really smooth. Thanks to all of you who came along for the fun.....
O-ya, I have to mention Keane's new TC gears. I don't think he stalled it once on this trip. Normally he stalls it 20 or 30 times out there 😀 That thing just crawls now "Pretty impressive" ❗

I almost made it. If they had stacked 3 feet of rocks like they did with John I would have made it 😀 😀 😀

No doubt! That was the best money I've spent in a while. Going up the WH3 bypass at barely over an idle was too cool. I just have to watch it because I end up pegging the tach pretty quickly. And...I think it killed my trail gas mileage. 😀

That's because I made it up far enough to warrant some rock stacking. We couldn't stack rocks for you if you never actually reach the holes 😀
It must have been a bad control arm that kept me from making up there

Great information and graphics! I think we should create a trail information thread and start saving this information there as well. We should include GPS coordinates as well for the trailhead, end and waypoints. I think Keane has some trails stored as well. I also like the elevation graphic. I hope Keane has the Dusy information. That would be a nice elevation graphic as well!

I thought I saw you holding it (your GPS) out the window at one point. Looked like a Garmin 60 series? 60CSx? How do you like it? I've abused the heck out of mine and I've been really happy with it.
I like it and it works well. I abuse mine also and no problem. I had it siting in my cup holder the whole trip and it kept a satellite most of the time. It is the 60 series, not sure which, with color screen.

Hey Tom what size tires do you have on your jeep? After seeing the trail better we are trying to decide if we want to sell our jeep and get a rubicon or try to upgrade ours. I think the price wouldnt be too big of an issue since it would probably be pretty close if we just upgraded our jeep. If we get a rubicon we are deciding if we want the unlimited or just the normal style. I think the longer wb would be good to have.

I'm not Tom, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn...
35" tires are much, much, much cheaper to get on your Jeep. 37" tires raise the cost BIG TIME. Just upgrade your "X" and you'll be happy with it. The aftermarket stuff is as good if not much better than anyhting Mopar puts in their rigs. The Rubicon transfer case is excellent, but the other upgrades aren't worth the extra cost.
I used to wheel a lot. . .

If I were doing it again, I'd be looking at a long wheelbase rubicon.
as a cost comparison I'd price out front and rear High Pinion 60s, and an atlas and a wheelbase stretch.
Yea, the reason we cosidered the unlimited is for the steep climbs like the bypass on winch hill 3 that you had some trouble with in the short wb jeep.
Yes it is starting as the X, and the rear axle is the first thing we would be upgrading, along with a better gear ratio in the transfer case and possibly the axles also. I have heard about people running huge tires on the front d30 just fine. I dont think 33's or even 35's would have a problem in the front untill we added a locker. We will most likely just keep our jeep and upgrade it, but we were looking at the options of getting another one.
And besides, if he got a rubicon it would be better than my toyota. We cant have that now, can we...

Remember, Rubicons come with a Dana 44 rear and a Dana 30/44 hybrid front. Not really much better than a standard TJ Sport or Sahara. You can't really compare them to a Dana 60.
The transfer case is good, but it's no Atlas.
For my money, I'd buy a non-Rubicon model and build it myself with better parts like Dana 60s and an Atlas.

The jeep has a 4 1/2 in. rubicon express superflex kit, not a long arm. 33's, no lockers and no low gearing. We could probably fit 35's under it once these tires wear down. I think if we replaced the rear axle, put a locker in, and got a new transfer case or at least some lower gears it would be a good start. Here is a pic of it, it has some rock sliders and a hanson bumper/tire carrier on it now.
The most important thing for us is that we want it to keep up with my truck so we can go places with both of them and not have any problems. We are trying to decide what would be better for cost effectiveness and the more upgrades we could do with the same amount of money. I dont think we will be getting 60's, we probably dont need that much beef since i dont think we will go over 35's on it.
