We just took a trip over the hill to Austin this past weekend and stopping at Donner Summit there was about 12’ of snow. We wil keep an eye out for this to melt.
Understood. Thanks for the update. May get more snow this week as well.
If its to deep at the end of April I will move the run to June.

I'm potentially interested in joining you all... are there any other vehicle requirements (e.g., min tire size, lockers, etc.) for how you plan to run it? Thanks

This run is not to difficult. 33” tires are ok. Lockers not required. Club general requirements apply. Intent is to have fun. Come with a positive attitude and willingness to help others.
Minimum Vehicle Requirements:
- Safety is a top club priority. Vehicles must be in good working condition and meet club minimum vehicle requirements for each run. Vehicles with known mechanical or safety problems are discouraged from attending runs and may result in a Club Officer or run Trail Boss not allowing a vehicle to be part of the club run occurring.
- Have current vehicle registration and be street legal or current “Green Sticker” for strictly off-road vehicles.
- Maintain current valid vehicle insurance.
- Have front and rear recovery points.
- Have a jack capable of lifting the vehicle.
- Have a full size spare tire (within two sizes). No “temporary” or “donut” spares allowed.
- Tires 37″ or larger and carrying no spare may get an exemption from a Club Officer or run Trail Boss if carrying an approved tire plug kit. If your bolt pattern is not common it is highly recommended that a wheel adapter to a common bolt pattern be carried.
- Have properly functioning seat belts or restraints for all occupants of the vehicle.
- Have a fire extinguisher on board.
- Have an approved recovery strap. Regular rope, chains, or tow straps with steel hooks are not considered an acceptable alternative to an appropriate recovery strap.
- Tires that are uniform in size and have legal tread. Tires should be of the proper type for the run being attended.

This Run has been moved to Saturday, June 29th
Can the Web Master move this run out on the Calendar? My access does not allow me to edit.
Josh - we stopped at Donner Summit last Sunday & found about 10 to 12' of snow, over the roof of the rest stop building. There is a cornice the size a major dam on the west side of Signal Peak (where the trail crests over to the top). Thanks for the postponement!

Has anyone drove up 80 lately & scoped out the Signal Peak summit? I flew over this area, returning from Washington DC, & looks to still have a lot of snow in the Sierras in general. Just a thought...
I was just up there this last weekend... Lots of snow on the top still... looks to be a good amount on the hard side. The easy side looks pretty clear though.

A Jeepin day is coming our way!
Signal Peak Trail details:
* Trail Length:
** Elevation Range:
Operating Season:
11 Miles - loop
This section was slightly off camber and narrow, use extreme caution especially when conditions are wet.
Trailhead - The trailhead for Signal Peak is well marked and shares the staging area with Fordyce Creek Trail. There is plenty of trailer parking, restrooms and near by camping.
Keep Left - Keep to the left as a right take you back down the hill to a dead end. This point also marks the end of the most difficult section of the trail. The remainder of the trail consists of mildly and greatly maintained service roads.
Switchbacks - Avoid the switchbacks to the right of the trail. These are illegal switchbacks and should not be used.
Signal Peak - This is the top of Signal Peak. Cell phone reception should be great here, there are cell phone towers a few hundred feet to your left! A short walk down the ridge to your right will revile an abandoned fire watch station.
Fordyce Lake Road - Take a right onto Fordyce Lake Road to head toward Interstate 80. This is the same road used to exit Fordyce Creek Trail early and is very well maintained. Keep an eye out for ATVs, and other visitors as you reach the bottom of the hill. This road can become pretty busy.
End of Trail - Signal Peak Trail ends at Hamshire Rocks Road. Take a left followed quickly after by a right hand turn onto Cisco Road for freeway access.
From Interstate 80 - Sacramento (78 Miles)
- Take I80 East toward Reno
- Take Exit 164 for Eagle Lakes Road (76.8 Miles)
- Turn left under the freeway toward Eagle Lakes
- Continue straight onto Eagle Lakes Road (1.0 Miles)
- Take a right onto Carlyle Rd at the sign (0.2 Miles)
- Trail head is to the right at the staging area
