WOW! What a great day! Our group was Myself and my eldest Son Chris, Greg and Ashley Bakken, Jeff (the fun Bakken) Bakken, Dave and Kevin Hebert. We all made it on and off the trail without any serious issues. Kevin had a minor shock bolt issue but nothing to be concerned about. We started off the day with Greg yelling at me for being late so I couldn't stop for any lunch items so I was kind of hungry all day. I finally made it the designated Starbucks about 7:45 and shortly after arriving we hit the road. We had clear roads and light traffic all the way to the trail head. We all aired down and after a little small talk we were headed on the trail. The trail was pretty clear and didn't have any snow on it until well past driveline hill. Kevin lead the way up driveline hill and after watching him I decided to go up it for my first time. Success! We then continued on hoping to make it to the first river crossing but the road started getting slick and hard to navigate. Greg and His wife, having their dog with them, decided not to continue. Two door Dave also decided not to continue. Kevin of course was not interested in turning around and said he was going forward. I decided I would follow him until I could find a place to turn around. We made it to a spot up the hill that we could have turned around but of course Kevin talked me into continuing further so I agreed. We didn't quite make it to the river crossing, but we came close. Kevin making it the furthest. So we turned around and met back up with the group.
After catching up to the group Greg suggested we take another trail that lead to some campsites that he thought we might like to see. It was a beautiful campsite right on the creek and I plan on coming back to camp their. We all crossed the creek at that point and continued on what turned out to be a loop back to where we started. We eventually made it back to the trailhead about 1:30 I think and aired back up. We were all a little disappointed that it hadn't snowed while we were on the trail since the forecast said that it probably would. But of course it started to snow just as we were finishing airing up. Oh well, it was still nice. We got back on the road and all headed home. We got delayed for a little due to some accidents but it wasn't too bad.
Thank you to everyone that joined me on this run. Because of work and family obligations, I haven't been able to get up the mountains all summer. It was a much needed get away for me and my Son and I had an awesome day!!
