OfflineSunday October 26, 2025 will be our second trail maintenance run of the year on Strawberry Pass Trail. This is the trail the club sponsors. To maintain member status you must make at least 1 trail maintenance run a year and there will be 2 runs including the other run being led by Brian. Our key goals for this run are bucking trees down in the area, erosion control, and getting documentation of fire remediation actions needed.. We will use the club's HAM PosseV2 frequency for communications, so bring your HAM radios.
Also, as a reminder, maintenance runs are a great opportunity for anyone needing to host a bbq/pot-luck for membership to do so. If you plan to do so, please post so folks know and can contribute.
Meet at the Subway/Shell station in Pollock Pines off of Hwy 50 and Sly Park exit at 8:30am. We will meet and after a quick drivers meeting will head up to the trailhead about 9:00am.

OfflineSo only "certified" people can run a chainsaw, and based on the information from last night's meeting, there are a fair number of logs? Might be a long day.
Besides the trees, will we be trying to hand dig out any of the culverts at least until we get an agreement for the tractor work?
Just trying to get a solid understanding of the work to expect to be doing (and will be trying to convince my wife to ride along even if she doesn't do a lot of physical labor).

The logs are passable as is, just need to be pushed off the trail in a number of places. I will bring a big saw and we can pre-cut for when the mini-excavator comes through to do the hard part.
Not going to try and hand dig the culverts, the ones needing work will need a few dozen yards dug out which would take a few days if doing by hand.
Depending on snow and number of people that show up, we may end up doing a bit of a pack-saddle side route exploration rather than a full trail run.

Kris,
Can you please take some extra pics, particularly with Ca4Wheel members doing the maintenance? They requested a write up for us in Ingear!
Be sure that we have a couple pics with current Cal4Wheel members so I can point that out in a write up.
Thanks!
That is awesome. Hopefully most of the people in our club are active Cal4Wheel members.

OfflineKris, I'm trying to plan on what I will be driving next week. From what I recall, pack saddle is mostly a forest service dirt road. If that's mostly what needs work, i'm leaning towards just driving my dodge. The drive both ways would be much easier. If we get snow before then I would be happy to bundle up and drive the bronco. Do you suspect I would need more than a stock 4x4?

Will know later in the week. There should be a few inches at the top of strawberry currently but there is another storm coming in this weekend. Forecasts are crap for accuracy until we are a couple days out.

My last run up Strawberry was in the dry, and it wasn't difficult. How much does a couple inches of snow change that?

OfflineI understand we are still 48 hours out, but watching the weather this morning and it is sounding like this weekend will be fun. Rain predicted for tomorrow and Sunday. I assume that will make things a little slick, but nothing crazy. Total predictions are only about 1/2 an inch. Just be sure everyone brings a rain slick.

Ok, so for right now I'm guessing that there will only be about 15 people there or so.
If there are any other people coming please post here as I will be shopping tomorrow.
Thanks.
What kind of food are you planning to bring, so I can figure out what kind of sides to bring with.

Dale, as previously posted I am bringing sandwich fixings (rolls, lunch meat, cheese, and condiments).
