I know this is short notice…. I'm Planning on possibly doing a Patrol on The Strawberry Trail this Saturday 11/23/13 morning (today in 5 mins for me). The goal is to Start at the HWY 50 side around 10-10:30a. I would like to have a second rig to roll with (for extra safety). This is a official club member only run due to the trail is closed and this is a "patrol to inform" other people of the trail being closed. If you want to go let me know so I'll wait for/meet you. Send a PM or email me I'll get it on my phone (include your cell # I'll call you when I'm leaving Sacramento) If I don't hear from anyone I may go to a different location (just prefer to have second rig) so let me know.
Thanks

Me and My Son Timothy went up and did a patrol on Strawberry Trail today Saturday 11/23/13. Here are some Pics. It was a beautiful day. Just a bit chilly. The trail up to Strawberry was fairly easy, with up to 2-3" snow. Strawberry trail entrance now has a "Gate" on the entrance to the actual trail. The Strawberry trail was very icy, all the streams are frozen. All the rocks had a film of ice on them, so it was very slippery climbing them. We cleared two 6" logs that had fallen onto the rail and just above "waterfall" there was a 20" tree that had fallen over the trail. We were able to use my "new" winch and a snatch block to pull the 20" - 15' log over to the side of the trail. (I'll have a video later) The log needs to have all the branches cut off (we didn't have our saw) We made it up to "V" Rock but was not able to get over it with the 6" of snow and the ice on the rocks. We did not see any one on the trail and it looks like no one had been on the trail sense it had last snowed.
If I can't build it, then it's something that should be bought.

The gate just has a chain on it, no lock. But the thing I noticed and why I put the pic of the Suzuki going through is how narrow it is. I'm not sure if the wider rigs could get through it without knocking down the posts. I think it's a good idea, More of a "deterrent" than just the little stake. The gate could of been wider, cost might of had a factor. OR….. they might of used Kyle's stock wrangler jeep for measurement.

Good pics, David ... thanks!!
And the gate will keep the law abiding/conservation conscious folks out if they don't have permission.
Any way to check with EDNF to see if a lock is in the foreseeable future? I wonder why they didn't ask us to put the gate up?

Kyle has asked us to post a final list for maintenance from 2013. Greg and I agreed to go over the dates and attendance for a formal EDNF response. We can ask about the gate at that time. Kyle is good about responding to us. We just haven't had the time to close out the year with them, a Trail master function we missed out on.
