Well, we are off the trail. It was a beautiful day and our crew worked hard, long and smart! Since Tim had to work, Kris sent me a text this morning saying he couldn't make it. He asked me to take the lead. He said for us to just focus on getting through the trail and to find a good spot to eat. Everyone arrived early or on time and we could have started twenty to thirty minutes ahead of schedule but we decided to stay until eight just incase someone showed up who did not post it on the forum.
We aired down and hit the trail. I was in the lead and was the only one with chainsaw certification. We did a lot of pruning and moved down branches and trees from the trail. We came across a drainage issue so the crew worked on that and I went ahead of the group incase there was any chainsaw work that needed to be done. There was a very large down pine tree just after the creek crossing right before you get to (what is it officially called, turtle rock, V rock, or???) and prior to the huge bolder squeeze. The tree came down in the winter and fell at about a 15 degree angle, blocking the entire trail. The top section had been cut and winched off enough for vehicle to pass but the lower section was in its original place and it was a very tight squeeze to get past it. I cut the top section into four to five foot lengths and was cutting the lower section when our crew arrived. They moved all the cut sections off the trail as I continued to cut some of the lower section into manageable lengths. We moved them off the trail and proceeded on.
We stopped for lunch at our usual overlook spot. Sean and Rufus did their member BBQ (sandwiches) and we sat and enjoyed lunch, the beautiful weather and the fine company. After lunch we continued on and stopped up top in the area where we placed rocks on the trail several years ago. We decided to put a few more rocks on trail. Well, one thing led to another and we ended up creating a mini Rubicon trail. Actually we made a great optional obstacle path while keeping the main part of the trail as it was. It was a huge team effort. We, using Chris' Bronco and winch, winched some VERY large boulders onto the trail and moved many smaller ones by hand. It may take a little additional work in the future to finish it up, but it should be a fun spot for people to play.
Our group originally planned to go to the Caples Lake overlook and then turn around and go back to hwy 50 via the trail. After spending so much time, we decided to head out to hwy 88 and come back via MET. We stopped at the overlook and watched a helicopter circle the area (we think there were filming our excellent team and fine workmanship for a 4X4 documentary, but that's another story). After a relaxing time for all of us, except for Brian, at the overlook, we headed out and were aired up and were on the road by five. Thanks to everyone for all their hard work. It was an excellent day!

Yeah I expected to start hearing the James Bond theme and Brian's 4Runner morph into another vehicle as the helicopter kept encircling us. But that again is another story.....
Great day on the trail with great people and great weather. Thank you Jeff for supervising the run and Jim and Rufus for supplying the sandwiches and everyone else for helping out.

Thanks Jeff for leading and to Jim and Rufus for lunch and everyone else for making it a mostly great day on the trail.
Had a nice little conversation with the wife when I got home as well as another one with the sheriff I promised to call back after I realized search and rescue had been sent looking for me because my emergency beacon accidentally got activated. (Apparently false alarms are more common than they should be and even more so with the older emergency beacons like the one I have….). The sheriff was understanding but I guess a report will be filed. Hopefully that will be the end of the formalities and this will be just an embarrassing lesson on securing my emergency beacon …..
I’ll try to load the pictures I took tomorrow (they are all sideways and upside down when I load directly from my phone).

It's not you or your phone, it's an issue with this website. I believe that Jamie can fix the orientation so just go ahead and upload them. It's typically best to do it in the photo gallery. We need to get photos to Tim for the Forest Service. And Tim, I have the sign up sheet for the volunteers.

Good to know - thanks.
I've added my pictures to the gallery Chris started. Let me know if I need to email or send them to Tim some other way.
