Wrights lake snow run
January 24 2021 @ 8:30 am – 4:00 pm-ish

Meeting at subway/shell station in Pollock Pines, off of the Sly Park and Hwy 50 exit. Meet at 830, drivers meeting and sign-in, leave by 9.  Lunch around noon or 1.  Start packing up around 2-3pm depending when the afternoon wheelers get back.

Pollock Pines Subway/Shell Station
6529 Pony Express Trail
Pollock Pines
CA 95726

After we meet up and have a drivers meeting. We will travel east on highway 50 to ice house road. From Ice house road we will travel to the turn on to Ice House lake where we can air down and travel on wrights lake tie road. It is a paved road that will have snow and ice on it.

Please post below if you are attending. Dress for a day in the snow and bring a chair.

Other notes:

The snow patrols will be a litter different then in years past unfortunately. It will be more of a rooming patrol handing out information as needed and helping folks that become stuck.

Follow COVID precautions

This run is currently open if we have any pending members needing a BBQ so post up if you want to take this on.

General things to remember:

-Tables

-Fire wood

-Warm Beverages

-Water (cold weather is very dehydrating)

-Easy-up

Tim, I know you and Brad mentioned it during the meeting but I'm not real familiar with the area, so what is the route you're planning to take?

I am out of commission for awhile, rig is unable to use 4x4 at this time :(.

The flange on my front output shaft broke while driving it on the street awhile ago. Have not had time to junk yard hunt and no luck finding the part online.

hope to have it fixed asap...you all have fun and be safe next weekend!

Hope everyone who will join in have a good, safe time & the crowds are at a minimum. My Jeep is still in the hospital & obviously will not attend.

I just returned this past Sunday afternoon from Austin, NV on Hwy 50 & couldn't believe the crowds. At Echo summit, the entrance was blocked to Caltrans maintenance station with parked cars, the right hand lanes on both passing sections west of Echo Summit were 100% full of parked cars, the CHP were there in force writing tickets & stop go traffic on both sides of road. All the years I've been traveling this road, I have never seen it so congested - cars & people everywhere. I can just imagine what Met was like.

Hello all

as of right now I am not sure if I can lead the run. I am in SoCal again for more fires and I am not sure if I will be back in time. If someone would be able to lead as a backup if I am not able to make it home that would be much appreciated.

I'm probably not going to make this run. However, I have seen posts on other forums showing a lot of down, large pine trees due to the 100 plus mile an hour winds so be prepared. I'm guessing we will have a lot of trees to cut up on our Strawberry spring maintenance run.

I will not be able to make the run. Still on a fire in SoCal. Current conditions up in the mountain, very large trees down everywhere similar to the 2011 wind event. If anyone goes up you will need a large saw to open up roads. With fresh snow on the way please be prepared.

So would it be better/safer if this run was put on hold due to the possible downed trees and blocked roads?

If I can't build it, then it's something that should be bought.

We can still go for fun. Not really any snow wheeling going on up there right now but if we can help clear the roads we will be getting something done. Mid day snow on Sunday will be coming in. Lets be prepared for a snowy drive back down the hill. I guess how long we are up there will depend on how far we are able to go. I will have my saw but its only 24” blade

Just asking… Robert, do you have the Forest Service chainsaw certification?

If I can't build it, then it's something that should be bought.

If this isn't an official maintenance run for the Forest Service then you shouldn't need to be certified to use a chainsaw.

Ok, I thought on a club run we were supposed to have one. Good to know.

We are going to Opt out of this run.
