I was just wondering what other peoples experiences have been with the jk 3.8, on my last oil change i used mobile 1 and have been getting a lot of valve train noise on startups. i noticed that it seemed to get worse with the mobile 1. i just did another oil change back to Castroil syntec with Titanium and it is completely quite upon startup. so if anyone else is having this issue it is worth trying.

Actually I recall one of my friends with the '08 JKUs said he switched to heavier oil (10w-30) and it helped both the noise and oil consumption issue.  Something about the non-US JKs use the 10w-30 and the only reason for the 5w-20 here is a minor improvement on EPA fuel economy testing.  This is 3rd+ party knowledge from a year back so don't quote me.

I switched to 10-30 for the exact reasons Kris mentioned - the oil filter also played a part as some drain back far more than others. I belive the motorcraft  (ford) and maybe the Bosch are the ones I have had best luck with.

If you feel you must run the 5 20 for some reason (I'm of the opinion it's not a good idea as remember at the base this is a1980s carry over iron block v6 when that weight of oil would of never been considered) the Lucas oil stabilizer helps
