I finally got around to installing my power steering cooler kit. Not that I was in any hurry.
This will help keep the power steering cool when I go to larger tires as I don’t plan on a ram assist in the near future. Someday!
For detailed instructions on removal of the grill and air box please see the Google.
The kit cost around $30 and takes about 2 hours to install at a casual pace.
Step 1: Remove the front grill by removing the six inserts along the top and gently pull forward. There is a tab under each headlight and 4 or 6 along the bottom (I don’t remember).
Step 2: Remove the air box for easy access. The small hose coming out of the side of the power steering fluid reservoir will be removed and new hoses will be connected at each end.
Step 3: Attach hose to the cooler, position it in a good location, and attach per instructions. I thought this location made it easy to route the hose.
Step 4: Remove fluid from the reservoir before disconnecting the side hose. I found that a small turkey baster works well!
Step 5: Disconnect reservoir from its mount and remove the small hose. Route new hose, measure, cut to length, and attach. Remember to put the hose clamps on the hose before connecting! I almost forgot and connecting the hose was probably the hardest part of the entire install. I forgot to take a picture of the new hose connected to the reservoir before re-installing the air box.
Step 6: Re-install air box and grill. Refill reservoir with power steering fluid. Test drive. Check fluid. Check for leaks. Done!
